Decision time: Phatbox OR Sat radio

Since they have not figured out how to make both the phatbox and sat radio work at the same time, money aside, which one would you choose?

I guess you could both and just swap them out in the trunk when you get bored with one.

Or wait and see if the 05 radio will fit in the 04 and give us another mp3 solution.

Re: Decision time: Phatbox OR Sat radio

I decided on the Phatbox. The reason for it was because I can choose my own music to play randomly and it won't play the same song twice in a very long time. Also, the signal might fade in certain spots while you're driving with Satellite radio. Do you have a lot of mp3's? If not, then it might be a chore for you to get songs and stick with satellite radio. Also, when you order the Phatbox, it will take 2-3 weeks for regular shipping, 1 week for fast ship. If you don't want to wait, you might want to go the SAT route as well.. good luck!

Re: Decision time: Phatbox OR Sat radio

Well, I have both sitting in my car, and overwhelmingly I'd rather use the Phatbox 90% of the time. The sound quality of my mp3 collection is so much better than SAT radio, and I can skip songs I'm not in the mood for. The phatbox does not drop out or skip. Its random mode means I don't hear the same song again for a really long time. Its ability to navigate by artist and album is a lot of fun, too. So say I hear a song by Nirvana and I decide I'm really in the mood for more, I hit Artist and get more Nirvana, or Album and I can listen to the rest of the album that that particular track is from as if it were it's own CD. It works perfectly with the way I like to listen to music.

If they just won't play nice together I'll simply build a switch so I can select one or the other. But yeah if I were to start over I'd definitely leave out the SAT tuner.

If you think your own mix of MP3's is the best thing going, then get the Phatbox.

If, on the other hand, you're willing to trust XM's DJs to put good mixes together, you might be surprised at how good they are. This can be especially true for certain genres of music where XM has the best going. For example, I like jazz and standards, and nothing beats XM's "Real Jazz" or "Frank's Place" for incredible variety of content. I would have to possess 1000's of CDs to even approach it.

Not sure what Phatbox is, but sounds like an mp3 player. I have a 2004 G35 and my in dash bose 6 disk plays mp3's, I just cannot have them in foldersl If you just want to play mp3 and have SAT you probaby can. I don't know about the other model years, but I was just playing mp3 on my factory stereo on the way home. Hope this helps!!!
