Question Metra Single/Double DIN Kits

Greetings again!

Looking for feedback on the Metra Kits. I own a 2006 G35 sedan and am looking at replacing the head unit and using a Metra Kit.

1. Do the kits come with the AC controls built-in?

2. If so, is making the AC operable again as easy as plug and play (assuming nothing else gets disconnected accidentaly while installing the new head unit)?

Thanks.

The AC controls are built in to the double din units. I was not aware of any single din units.

I was contemplating on weather I should have gotten the metra but I found a great deal on the OEM piece on eBay.

The thing about the Metra piece that I didn't like was that the rotating temperature **** is a push button on the Metra.

Both the single and double DIN Metra kits have the AC controls. Yes, it is plug N play.

If you have questions PM me. I have a brand new one I'm looking to get rid of if you're interested.

Nope, you can't use JDM buttons in Metra. Even if you could, the jdm a/c controls are more expensive than the whole metra kit, and you can't get a metra kit and jdm a/c controls for less than the full JDM kit.

JDM kit is the only way if you care anything about how your car looks.

See this very recent thread for more discussion on the differences.

I have begun the installation of the system in my G and slowly but surely, I have installed the radio and one set of component speakers. It's a slow process and I have to do it when I find time.

I did use the Metra Kit (Single DIN) to install an Alpine CDE-103BT and it came out looking pretty good. I will admit it's not a perfect match, but unless you are die-hard about keeping that stock apperance, it is fairly nice. The rubber buttons take some getting used to, but the layout is the same as the original controls and they respond well to the touch. It's also nice to have a little cubby under the radio to put small items (iPod, cell phone, etc...) However, in the end, price was a factor and I tried to build a decent system without breaking the bank.

In addition, I found time yesterday to install one set of component speakers into the drivers side front door. I purchased a set of Alpine SPS-600C for the front doors. Install went pretty smooth. I ended up using the mounting adaptor included with the speakers, as the infiniti OEM speakers come assembled in a housing that they cannot be separated from, thus leaving a larger than speaker hole. I also had to drill a 1/2" hole (in which I placed a 3/8" grommet to prevent speaker wire chafing) next to the speaker opening to run the speaker wire behind speaker itself.

The tweeter was installed on the door, as the OEM tweeter is not very large and thus, the mounting space for it does not accommodate the new, larger Alpine tweeter. I ended up placeing it on the door, about 2 inches away from the top of the door handle and it looks and sounds awesome.

In addition, I installed an Alpine Power Pack under the passenger seat. This unit is like a mini amp which plugs directly into the Alpine head unit and then to the aftermarket harness for your vehicle (which them plugs into the cars factory radio harness). It has a low and high gain setting, and even with it on low, it gets loud fast. It provides 45 watts RMS to four channels (Front and Rear door speakers).

I'm no audio competition guy, but I can hear the difference between the Alpine speakers and the OEM speakers. WOW!!!

I will try to put some photos up over the weekend as I install the next set of component speakers on the passenger side front door.

Thanks for all the help and comments.
