Stock head unit advise

For some reason, my stock head unit seems to be having a problem getting a proper signal to my subwoofer. Basically, my system seems to need time to "warm up" to get full volume from the sub. After about 30 minutes the subwoofer (15" Fosgate P3) hits about 50% harder. My installer told me they think a "better" hi to low converter (whatever that is) will cure the problem. I'm still waiting for this supposed part but wanted to get some additional advise.

I'm aware that a better head unit may be in order, but I can't afford one at this time and want to achieve "consistent" output from the stock hu.

Not sure, all I can really tell you is that I don't have that problem, using Peripheral Ven4 line output converters.
