Looking for a nice Double Din that matches factory illumination?

Hello All,

I am looking to get a double din head unit soon and I have done a ton of searches but havent found much info.

Does anyone know what double din units come the closest to matching the G35's factory illumination.

Thats always a big pet peeve I have is when the radio lights up like green and the illumination in the car is like amber, Drives me crazy.

Anyhow Im a little pissed since it appears the Alpine double dins are not dual illumination ( big Alpine fan )

Any help, Suggestions, pics etc would be greatly apreciated.

Looking to pick up a double din setup soon and would love for it to look as clean as possible.

Thanks in advance!

I currently have a Pioneer AVIC-F900BT and it allows you to adjust the illumantion color.... I was able to set mine to match the factory amber. I really like that ability because alot of people (that arent in to cars) dont even think that the unit is after maket AND if you have the factory BOSE system it really gets alot more performance out of those speakers then the factory head unit (soo much so that I have put further audio unpgrade on the back burner)

Yep, Pioneer AVIC F700BT, F900BT, F90BT, X910BT and U310BT all allow you to set red/blue/green levels, for a total of over 16 million different colors (256*256*256).

Not sure about other Pioneer HUs, but I believe the Z110BT also allows this.

Ive never owned a Kenwood so im not familiar with quality vs Alpine.
http://www.kenwoodusa.com/Car_Entert...igation/DDX814

Features I like :
  • Custom illumination ( appears I can match it to OEM )
  • 5V Preouts
  • Bluetooth Built IN
  • iPhone Compat

Anyone have any opinions? Ive always ran Alpines but this has some nice features and looks I can match factory illumination.

It's a good unit, but I prefer the voice control and iPod integration of the Pioneer units.

x10000 on the pioneer f-series

i went fo the f-700BT because I didnt need DVD capabilities... plus if I ever wanted to watch video, I will hook up my 160GB ipod, or put the files on an SD card, and watch videos from there.. you can see how well you can get the illumination to match

F900BT (if you can still find one), F90BT, X910BT are all virtually identical to that unit but with DVD or higher-volt preouts.

nice

Wrauthernaut,

That looks really good. I'm also looking to do the same thing. Did you just buy the DD kit off of ebay like http://cgi.ebay.com/NISSAN-JDM-DOUBLE-DIN-DASH-G35-COUPE-SEDAN-03-04_W0QQitemZ180466074045QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item2a049dc1bd and a wiring harness?

I'll probably get mine professionally done, but I'm guessing they won't have a G35 DD kit laying around

Thanks,
Johnathan

No. That kit there is the trim only. You NEED one that comes with new A/C controls.
Silver (most common)
Black
Willow

Once you have that, all you need:
Steering wheel adapter (PAC SWI-???? - depends on brand of stereo)
Metra 70-7551 (Bose wiring harness) or 70-7550 (Non-Bose wiring harness)
double-din trim kit to fill the gap
Nissan diversity antenna adapter
Head unit

Love my F90BT as well! Great features and system layout. The Pioneer units have improved with the updates and can hiccup every once in a while but it is worth it my opinion. My father just got the X710BT and after a learning curve coming from an avic D1, he is happy with it. They just need to revise the manual that comes with it and fine tune the voice activation.

you are my hero, are the higher preouts necessary if you are just going to keep the factory speakers in the car?

i dont wana upgrade the speakers or amp, i just want a nice all in one unit, im really looking into the x910bt, it looks great, and i can find them brand new online for about hal of the retail price..aprox $600...preouts arnt as nice as the f90bt but i was gonna keep the factory speakers and such...other than that i dont see any additional features between them, it seems the extra $100 retail price is the difference in voltage on the pre outs

thanks man

No, but the extra year of warranty (if you can still find from an authorized dealer) is always nice on the F90BT.

I was actually able to get my F90BT for a few bucks less than the 900 due to good sales at the time. The 90 includes the iPod cable as well, you'll have to purchase one separately with the 900, I think the 910 also.

The MSRP on the 910 and 920 are the same, so if you're not in a rush, the x920BT will be out in ~5 weeks for probably $800, creeping down to $600 over a few months. It's a lot faster and has really good iPhone capabilities.

Just a heads up on the x910bt.
Amazon shows it at $539 right now from CarToys, who is an authorized pioneer retailer, so you can use the $100 mail-in-rebate right now.

Looks like they're clearing them out for the 920, due in mid-march.

i have my pioneer f90bt illumination color to match the cars illumination color perfectly. i actually got my f90bt factory refurb for only $600. just as good as brand new. my dealer said the f90bt in my car was the best looking aftermarket head unit he's seen installed in the G's
