Bose vs NON - Bose ( audio - upgrade advice )

Hello Guys,

Ive browsed over every thread in the audio section and have learned alot, and what I have pretty much come up with is the Bose has no power built in the unit but an amp in the back + a sub is that the only diff?

Are the OEM speaker setups the same minus the sub. IE : Front = Components and rear = Non Components ( 6 speakers )?

Another question I have is since I am looking to purchase a G35 ASAP and I plan on upgrading the stereo anyway with a JDM Console + double din is it easier to install in a NON Bose vs a Bose setup since there is no amp and scattered wiring?

Any info would be greatly appreciated as I will be looking to purchase a G35 asap and I am trying to figure out a ton of stuff before hand.

If your going to upgrade anyway is there any reason to think of the Bose system as any deciding factor ( I believe Bose is only in premium package anyway )

Thanks for any help guys!

The non-bose head units and speakers are made by Clarion.
The Bose head units, amplifier, and speakers are made by Bose, the speaker materials and design are different, but there aren't any additional speakers in other locations in the 05-06 sedan. (07+ are a different story).

If you're replacing everything, from the headunit all the way to the speakers, the difficulty would be identical.
If you're keeping existing speaker wires replacing head unit, speakers and amp, the Bose would be easier, as there is existing wiring from the head unit, to the trunk and from the trunk to the speaker locations, making for an easy "insert amps here" scenario.

The Bose sounds worse than the non-bose system. I own both an '05 Bose and an '06 non-bose, both sedans. The non-bose (Clarion "factory") system is definitely better, it was better even before upgrading the head unit. Listening to an MP3 via iPod on my wife's system (Pioneer F90BT HU w/stock speakers) sounds better than the original CD being played in my car (Stock Bose).

In my opinion the hierarchy of benefits of the premium package goes: Seat and steering wheel memory, auto-dim rear-view mirror, reclining rear seats, sunroof, dual climate control ... anything else I forgot ... Bose.

As for being a deciding factor? NO. Even if you're going to wait a little bit before upgrading, the Bose system can be tolerated for a time. It should not be a deciding factor.

And I'm not sure how many other people here own two G35 Sedans with the two factory systems ('05 6MT Premium and '06 5AT Base) to directly compare living with and driving both, so I give my personal authoritative stamp here.

Hey Wrathernaut,

Thanks for your reply. I really want a Premium Package but the way I see it a 6MT Sedan in the color combo I want seems to be pretty hard to find. And its starting to look like less of a big deal each time I revisit the list of mods.
  • Reclining Rear Seats ( cool but prob not a huge deal )
  • Sunroof ( the non premium car Im looking at house an OEM sunroof )
  • Dual Climate Control ( not a big deal )
  • Seat and Steering Memory ( im the only driver )
  • Auto Dim Mirror ( cool again but not a big factor )

So As long as I have my sunroof the rest is pretty much the same.

So NON Bose sounds better for the most part and If I replace everything should be a cleaner install etc. ( good to hear )

Does the non premium/tech package still have a power tilt/telescoping wheel + HID Headlights?

The car Im looking at is NON BOSE / 6MT 06 Sedan.

Thanks guys!!!!!!! Cant wait to get this car.

The seat memory is handy even when you're the only driver, since you can recline/move it back for relaxing and reading when you're killing a few minutes and esily return to normal position.

The manual telescoping/tilt wheel is standard, and the Journey package gets you the power tilt/telescope (+ seat memory). I cannot say for sure if the sport package (standard on 6mt sedan) includes everything from the journey package.

Non-bose 6MT sounds like a great sedan. The only big worry is the Oil Consumption possible issue.

Make sure it still has powertrain warranty and keep an eye on that oil from the day you buy it.

I actually went to a diffrent dealer after the salesman kept trying to sell me on the bose setup

he gave me the "bose is the best" speech

I asked him if he had ever heard an even decent set up. He said his sonys in his pathfinder didnt sound as good as bose......right
