Re: Custom Ported Fiberglass DIY - what do ya thin
now i have a question. I have an alpine 301 amp. and I'm unsure exactly how to hook it up. I don't think i shoudl need an LOC cause #1 it accepts higher voltage inputs, and #2 it accepts speaker level in puts

I'm with Joe, after such an excellent step-by-step set of pictures, I'm starting to feel a bit ambitious myself.
I've been leaning towards the blksnake box but was uncertain about doing the 'glass work myself. After looking at these pictures, I'm thinking I might be able to do it after all.
Of course, if I make a mess of things, I'm calling 4080. His box is sweet and he's already done all the hard work.

Nice work!! I almost with mine as well. Mine is a 12" JLaudio 12w6 sealed but on the driver side. I'm still deciding whether to carpet it or paint it black or silver with a clearcoat to get that fiberglass look. What do you guys think .. what would look better? carpeted or painted?

looks very professional... if it was 2005 already, I'd be hitting hte hardware store right now. I'm trying to imagine what one on each side would look like...
btw, r u worried that ur basketball might bounce over and injure ur sub?

your steps like identical to mine in a step-by-step i did on my old car.. it's crazy how the same processes are used over and over. great work by the way.. love the port facing the interior of the car. it's good to see someone else keeps a ball in the trunk too

Nice job! I really have no issues with what you did. 100% perfect. Did you call the engineers of that Sub and ask them the specs of the box you should build? The only reason why I'm concerned is that it's hard to measure the cubic feet inside that box. How would you do it? lol.

The pic shows the box with the cargo net in. It just sqeezes around it. While making the box i made sure there was space for the hooks. And there's the basketball chillin in there.
As for the volume of the box. The sub can fit from .75 to 1.75 cu ft in a ported box, with optimal of 1.25. So I went pretty ghetto and filled a heavy duty garbage bag with 1.25 cu ft of water and put it in the corner. I basically just pushed it up against the side and kinda shaped it the way i expected the box to turn out and stuck tape down as a guideline of where the box should end. So yeah I did it pretty ghetto, but the sub has a good range of volumes and I stuck some polyfil in there for good measure.

Re: Custom Ported Fiberglass DIY - what do ya thin
To find the volume for a rounded and curvy box, fill it with packing foam/peanuts before installing. Then take the peanuts out and stick them in square box of known volume size ( you can cut the box down with a razor to get it exact)
Then do your LxWxH calculation.
