All You iPOD Owners
All You iPOD Owners
I'm planning on installing an iPOD in my car since buying cd's is a waste of money, but have a few questions.
1. Is the sound quality the same as playing from a CD?
2. I can't find a thread where someone discussed about installing one. Could you paste the URL here if there's one.
Thanks,
Mark

..or if you do a search for "ipod" you should find a ton of posts on here about it.
But I would suggest you just get yourself a phatbox if you want to be off of cd's (but have better music navigation and sound).
Don't say i never hooked you up!

Re: All You iPOD Owners
phatbox is way too expenisve IMO. Look at g35ipod.com - The quality isn't as great as CD's I've heard but its still not that bad.

Re: All You iPOD Owners
Thanks a lot. Yeah the phatbox is a little pricey when compared to an iPOD but once I get my car back I think i'll just get an iPOD professionally installed like I did with my sound system.
Re: All You iPOD Owners
The Phatbox is so easy to install, you can do it yourself (it just plugs into sat wiring). Might offset the cost some, vs. buying the PAC audio adapter and having everything professionally installed. They have to get behind the radio to install that.
I can't stress enough how nice it is to have everything fully controlled and integrated through the head unit with the Phatbox. I balked on the price initially, too. It'd be one thing if there was a total iPod control solution like Alpine is coming out with or maybe what BMW has. But it's difficult to control an iPod while driving and it's a hassle to start and stop it every time you get in and out of your car, not to mention put it away somewhere so it doesn't get stolen. Then there's the issue of where to put it. The g35ipod.com solution is the best looking solution I've seen -- at the expense of your cup holders, something I wasn't willing to give up. A friend of mine has the Dension iceLink and even with the partial control (track change, start/stop) he still hates it and is now looking to either replace it or get a Phatbox after seeing mine in action. It's a moot point since the Nissan iceLink seems to be a dead product. The Phatbox is always ready to go, out of sight out of mind and the interface is great. Pricey, yes, but after having it, it's soooo worth it, if you are sticking with the stock head unit.
So my suggestion is to either get the Phatbox or go aftermarket and get an Alpine compatible with the KCA-420i which is due any day now (Crutchfield estimates today). Both are expensive but you'll probably be much happier with the result.

Never knew about that Alpine interface coming out. Maybe I'll look into to that and compare prices with the Phatbox. I don't want something that looks like *** and is a hassel to use. I already spent a lot on my system and want to keep it nice and clean like it is now. Thanks for your input Djrobx. Made me think twice.
Re: All You iPOD Owners
the phatbox is an expensive piece of equip....but once you see it in action you will know why. Nothing like being able to navigate through thousands of songs with the steering wheel controls and stock head unit.

Yeah I know what you mean. Keeping the function of the steering wheel is important. I was told though I could use a FM modulator with the factory deck and still be able to use the steering wheel. Have any of you tried this?
