I went with 2 JL W6 10's with a Alpine 500W amp to each and it is doing the job for me. Jus my 2 cents.

Pretty much any amp and any sub will "do the job", but to the OP's needs? That's a different question, nobody would really know that. People tell me a single 12 is enough, but IMHO, what single 12. I used have a 12 that would take 3,000w no problem (was on an rf t30001bd)...yeah that would keep me happy, but to some it may be too much. The opposite holds true as well. In the end it comes down to the listener's view on what they consider to be good enough.

JL AUDIO! All the way. They have the most musical, and hardest hitting subs IMHO anyhow. I have a 12w6v2D4 in a zenclosure, and only had a 250/1 jl amp (I will be upgrading soon to a 500 or 600 JL of course) and it dumps. All my friends keep asking me how much power is that sub getting??? I am a bit older now and have lost some hearing... lol anyway the way I heard it from an installer friend of mine he said, if you want to get Alpine you will need two. JL, just one.

by the way, the zenclosure I have for the 12 has 1.2 sq ft. volume, and is made of 3/4 mdf. Oh and it looks AWESOME with stretched black marine vinyl (ebay 20 bucks) on it! I can post a pic if you are interested.

That installer doesn't know what he's talking about. Don't mean to put him down but that's not the truth. It's enclosure and vehicle dependent. Lots of variables involved. In terms of SPL, a Type R would be the preferred choice.

^totally agree, the post about a type r not being loud is completely incorrect, and the poster obviously hasn't heard a well setup type r.

I would say for pure SPL go with the type R
and for SQL go with the JL

but then again I have no clue why you are looking at a 10" and a 12" different brands...

Oh, and if price is a concern, Alpine is quite a bit cheaper. I see them for about 100 to 150 (Amazon/Ebay). The JL will cost you a good 250 to 450 depending on where you buy.

Im looking at the the JL 10w6 and alpine 12 type r bc the price and bc in the research i've been doing a Type R 10 can't compare with a JL 10w6 or 10w7.. I want good sound quality out of my bass too, and i want a good bump, so im thinking about the JL10w7.. I've heard quite a few Type R's and they bump hard but i feel like the subs ruin the sound quality..

BTW Gl35 can you post some pics?

10w6 and 10w7 are completely different. Neither the type or nor the w6 get near it. If you're looking at price, then there isn't much of a difference between the 10 w6 and 12 type r. The 10w7 is pricey, and I'd recommend other subs personally. JL is a good brand but there are a ton of others out there that I'm sure you haven't heard of, but they are much better, and usually a good amount cheaper.
