keep in mind that ive never installed an amp before. to connect the amp to the head unit is it just as simple as connecting the 2 with rca cables?

Remote wire too... pwr/gnd wires @ amp... read a bit on CAF, you'll get hooked.

Most likely because of their impedence... just like the new JBL P series, those are 2 ohm drivers. You will squeeze more power out of the crappy Bose amp in that config, which, depending on driver efficiency, will make it sound better compared to stock Bose speakers.

IMHO, Infinity has gone down the drain since '04. The JBL-based REF amps like the one linked below were decent... everything else they made sounded like high pitch farts to me.

Hey, you got my take on what you should do for an aftermarket system... Bose stuff operating in an aftermarket electrical environment doesn't always go well. That Bose amp should really be used as a paperweight or whatever...

...Bose invests A LOT OF MONEY on R&D with respect to speaker placement (height/angle/size to "fill the car with sound"), but very little money in purchasing decent off-the-shelf drivers.

People like the infinity for the ease of installation.

Basically just get some adapters and bolt it in. Which is fine....but I like a bit more than what the infinities have to offer.

I honestly wouldn't even bother with the rear speakers. When you have a good front stage you can barley hear the rears.

Installing an amp can be over whelming to a novice. Do you have any friends that can help you?

You will need to run wire from the battery, under the carpet, and then to the back where your amp is. Ground wire is the same. You gotta run a wire to the amp.

Remote wire and RCAs are easiest when you run em at the same time.

The remote wire turns on the amp, the RCAs provide the signal/audio

Probably still only 10% of their marketing budget.

^^LOL have you seen this tiny radio/alarm with small speakers on both the front & rear of it, the one that's on tv (commercials) all the time? Are they trying to convince old people or what?!?!?? Cone area / speaker diameter being very small, are they really expecting us to believe what those 'users' say about it sounding like "there is big home stereo in my room"??

Fvck.

My favorite is the ad they've been running in Popular Science since like 1980 for their wave radio. So cutting edge that there's been no need to make improvements for 30 years. Oh wait, they added a CD player once, and an iPod dock too.

ok time to bring back this old thread....

im ready to get this stuff done. found a really reuputable shop that will do the component speaker/amp install and "re-install" my DD (since it was my first DD install and it wasnt that pretty of a job) for $450. He said they would also re-wire the rear deck or rear pannel speakers however i wanted.

i plan on getting this component system because it seems to be one that everyone is suggesting, and its a good price:

http://www.woofersetc.com/p6201/CTX6...ker-System.htm

i WAS going to get this amp because of the $200 price tag and because drozzy seemed to really like it (and it seems like he knows what hes talking about), but it doesnt seem to be available anymore:

http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...m_VGA6002.aspx

any more suggestions of amps that are comparable to price and performance of that amp?

i would like to keep the components/amp price to $500 or under since the install is going to be $450 and i still need to get the amp wiring kit which i know is around $50.

...sorry what's the deck again? you mention DD, and my 7-yr old PC is begging me not to press "page 1" for speed sake.

http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...m_TRA5602.aspx

- $200, 2004-05 lineup with great specs. Shouldn't fail you.

Similar power, maybe not as dynamic as a Van Gogh - but the basics are the same, if you compare both boards. That's the one I ran in the Maxima, and it's awaiting install *sigh* for now...

Don't forget the big 3 wire upgrade, and a good gain setting method. Again, apologies for not re-reading the whole thing.

$450 just for labor? That's horrible. I guess you pay to have it done "right" if it's a good, reputable shop though.

I wonder what I should charge myself for my install?
