So pissed! My Garmin just bricked!

It's a nuvi 205. When I start it up, it gives a message like "No detailed maps found that support routing. The nuvi cannot be used without them." I bought this thing over a year ago. I spent over an hour on the phone with tech support and they are stumped. I'm tempted not to purchase Garmin again, but aren't they supposedly the best there is?

Any suggestions?

I have seen this a few times in my store, there is nothing that you can do on your end. I have tried to reload maps on it for customers to no avail. It has to be sent to garmin. The amount of money it would cost to send it in and have them fix it, buy a new one. You can get the 255w which is wide screen with text to speech anywhere from 139.99 to 199.99 depending when its on sale. You just missed the 139.99 at best buy but it will rotate around to a low price in a few weeks. If you get it soon you do have 30 day price protection. Get the 2 year service plan which will protect you from this.

I have been very dissapointed in my latest Garmin products. I was/am a total fanboi of Garmin. However the last five (three were waranty replacements of a C320) that I have owned have Pwnd me! It is always the battery. This last one a 765T choked about 5 months after I got it. I was VERY careful to remove it from the mount and get it out of the sun and it still crapped out. I just didn't have the time and when I did I forgot to send it back. It's such a PITA anyway. I will say that Garmin's Customer Service is some of the best, however.

I noticed you guys aren't telling me to totally give up on Garmin, which must mean that Magellan and Tom Tom are total crap. Alright. Guess I'll start looking for a new one. Thanks, guys.

I would switch to TomTom because of all the user input they will take (correct maps, down load different voices (even Cartman, it's funnie as hell), Garmin suck in this respect) but, I don't want to lose all my waypoints and POI's. I would have to spend forever transfering them.

Hmm. Target has a Garmin nuvi 1300W on sale for $109 this week. For that price, I'll give Garmin one last try.

have you tried doing a full reset of the Garmin? clearing all data and not just pressing the reset button?
If you turn off the garmin and press on the left corner of the screen you'll get a diagnostics menu. That may help

Already tried that a few times...nothing. And it's actually the bottom right corner of the screen. Thanks though.
