complete system upgrade
I have an 06 g35x sedan with a stock BOSE system and im thinking of upgrading to a double din setup with an upgraded amp (if needed) and maybe headrest tvs as well. does any1 have any suggestions as to what would be the best setup for me.... the best dash unit to use... which one would match interior orange lighting...and if any1 knows where i can get a jdm double din kit that has a wood grain interior instead of the billet ones i keep finding. all posts welcome! thanks!

Nobody makes a wood grain double din. Wood grain was not an option in the Nissan Skylines that are the source of the aluminum ones we use.
I think all current-gen Pioneer double-din units have adjustable colors that can be matched to whatever color you want. I don't follow other brands that closely, others can chime in here.
And if sound quality is of any importance to you, you do need to upgrade the amp.
Before suggesting actual components though, you need to supply a few things:
Money you have
What features are most important (Nav, DVD, Video, Bluetooth, Satellite Radio, Voice-Control...)
And headrest screens... really? save your money - rear seats can see the dash just fine. Worry about them later if you must have them. However, you might want to keep in mind headunits that allow separate audio/video stream to the rear. I know the Pioneer X920BT will do it, and the Z110BT will have it when the software upgrade comes out in May-June if it doesn't already.

All headunits except POS store-brand ones will work with the steering wheels when you buy the right adapter.
See this sticky'd post here for which ones you need:

It's the general consensus that Pioneer has the best iPod interface, while Kenwood has the best navigation. I use the iPod interface much more, so I consider the Pioneer units more desirable.
X920BT and Z110BT are both excellent units with navigation and DVD, and use advanced voice recognition for iPod - so you can say "Play artist The Hanslick Rebellion" and it'll start playing, instead of the basic voice recognition in the Kenwood units that require you to look at the screen and give simplified commands "Search artist T" "Next Page, Next Page, Next Page, Line 4" to do the same thing.
The flagship for Kenwood - 9960 - comes with lifetime subscription to traffic info with guidance, but still has the same voice control as current-gen units. The iPod and other interfaces (except nav) are inferior to the Pioneer units, and it costs nearly double the price of the X920BT or Z110BT.
The price for upgrading without including the price of the headunit - the JDM trim, steering wheel adapters and wiring harnesses will run you about $400 or so. The Z110BT and X920BT are about $900, depending on market fluctuations. The Kenwood 9960 street price is about $1500-1800.

^^ Well put.
Don't forget to add that the Kenwood head units generally already come equipped with the Garmin Navigation system, which is one of the best out there on the market. Hence, it explains why the Kenwoods are on such a deeper scale on prices.
If I remember correctly, don't most Pioneer units require you to buy the adapter hook ups separately, such as for Navigation, BlueTooth, etc.?

The F700BT F900BT, F90BT, X910BT, X920BT, Z110BT all have everything built-in but HD and Satellite radio add-ons. All of those are their upscale models.
"Most" is accurate if you're including single-din and other entry-level DDin units, but the same can be said of all manufacturers.(although the $250 Pioneer U310BT has nav, bluetooth built-in). Their cheaper units (3200, 4100, 4200) require add-ons.
Garmin's good, but it's definitely not the reason for a $300 or so premium over Pioneer models.

I figured it would be in the range of 1 thousand to 1500 for the unit so that's not too bad. What about upgrading the speakers sub and amp? Any suggestions or would the stock Bose speakers and sub go well w the new DD. I know the amp needs to be upgraded but how powerful should I go with it

The Bose amp doesn't go well with anything. It's worse than the non-bose system. It's a tiny little box of random components that Bose felt like calling an amp.
As far as actual amps and speakers to recommend, that's not exactly my area of expertise - My only recommendation is to do a 4-channel amp and a separate D-class 2-channel/mono amp for whatever sub you put in instead of doing a 6-channel. It'll let you do an A/B-class amp for the front components + rear coaxials (or just fronts if you prefer a front sound stage) and a powerful D-class to power the rear trunk sub. Selection on 6-channel amps is pretty limited, whereas 4 and 2-channel amps can be found at any price range and sound quality combination that you want.

to me the kenwoods just sound much better. I just couldnt get the Pioneers to sound the way i wanted. I had to go to an aftermarket process to get the Pioneer Z110bt to sound decent.
I like Pioneer single din units over thier Double dins.

If you go Pioneer, get the X920BT. The software they developed for that is the latest and greatest from Pioneer. The integration with an iPhone is ridiculous. You can even stream Pandora through it creating playlists and like/dislike songs as they come up. The Z110 doesn't have this system, but the unofficial word form the powers that be is that there will be an upgrade sometime this year.
