Can I cut the signal to two channels on a 4 channel amp?

Not for the car, however I need to know before I install a toggle switch.
I've got a 4 channel amp running two rear speakers, and two speakers in the box of my pickup (running on the signal for the fronts). I'd like to be able to shut off the two exterior speakers. However I need to know if I will damage anything or hear any odd sounds by shutting off the input signal to two channels on the amp, while the other two channels are still going.

I want to have the ability to turn the outside speakers on/off at my discretion. I don't understand how bridging would serve that purpose.

From http://www.audioenz.co.nz/forums/arc...hp/t-6089.html

As a precaution you could make up some RCA shorting plugs (wire linking centre pin to earth ring) for the unused channels.
Yup, good practice to use 'shorting plugs' on unused input sockets.

1) Eliminates noise pickup (form this possible source)
2) Keeps the socket clean (or cleaner anyway).
