Getting new keys / fobs
Getting new keys / fobs
I recently purchased an 05 G35 coupe and it came with only one key and fob. Obviously, I want to have a few spare sets. Before I get flamed, I want to let everyone know that I did some searches, but I didn't feel like this was answered exactly.
Can I bypass the dealership completely? Meaning... Is it possible to purchase an uncut Infiniti key and fob on Ebay, have someone local cut the keys, and program the fob remotes to my car? ( https://g35driver.com/forums/audio-v...e-key-fob.html )
Can someone who has done this with success offer some pointers?

Yes. Call your local locksmiths first, and ask them if they can program a transponder key for a G35. It takes a scan-tool type thing that they plug into the OBD data port under the dash. I got mine done two weeks ago, and it cost me $40 for the programming and cutting, plus $12 for the key blank off ebay. You can program the fobs yourself in like 30 seconds. Don't waste your money at the stealership.
Programming pointers for the transponder key:
for my '03 coupe, they used the code for a Murano.
When it says "insert key and turn on for 5 seconds", it means just that. Don't try inserting and removing the key 5 times or turning on and off 5 times. Just turn it on and leave it on for 5 seconds.
