Navi not working.. help

about several weeks ago, my navi was not working properly. I got a "disc error" noticed on the screen. Then I took out the navi disc and reinserted it. after that it worked fine until today.
this afternoon I got the "disc error" notice again. I tried to do the same thing as before but it's not working. it keep saying disc error.
I've heard that this happen to many G owners. but can someone please clarify what causing this problem and what do I have to do to fix this?
Thanks...

Hey Vic... I feel your pain.

I've been in that very situation not too long ago.

EXACT same situation. Disc error, reinsert disc, worked fine...
Then it happened again and didn't work.

First thing's first. Set an appointment with your dealer for them to look at it. It only takes them 5 minutes to assess the situation and order a new nav unit. Don't walk in, save yourself the trouble.

Here's the hard part. You wait. Hopefully it's in stock at the CLARION outlet/center. It will take about 2 weeks.

Here's the worst case scenario. It's on national backorder (like it was at the time for me) I had to be NAV-less for 6 weeks.

Here's a suggestion, as soon as you get your dealership's service dept to order the part, make a call to INFINITI consumer affairs and chew them out royal. (Not the nice lady/guy answering your call, but about the situation) It should move you up on the list, or at least speed up the process.

Long story short
1. Call service dept and take car in.
2. Call Infiniti Consumer Affairs after they order new nav unit.
3. Wait.

Re: Navi not working.. help

I didn't even have to take my car in-- just told my service mgr. the symptoms, and he ordered the unit. Took less than two weeks to get here, and about 30 min to install.

wow... thanks alot for that information... I really appreciate it.
So there is no other way to fix the navi other than replacing the navi unit?

Re: Navi not working.. help

you're still lucky.. you still can get the navi work again.
but mine is dead.. it will always say "disc error" all the time.

I was just wondering, why is it that almost everyone get this problem with the navi? is infiniti's navi that bad?

Re: Navi not working.. help

Vic,

I asked the service manager the same question twice.
Each time i had a different answer.

1. "It's not that common, sorry for the inconvenience"
(When i first brought the car in)

2. "You and three other people are waiting on this part"
(When i went in for an oil change)

My conclusion, it's not all that common but it sure sucks like hell when you get stuck with the problem. Did you go to the dealer yet?

I have the same Navi cd error problem. Did the dealer do the repair for free?
How much did it cost?

I'm pretty sure this repair is not a freebie.

There's no way I'd spend more than $50 to fix the factory nav unit. Worse than a garmin.

ebay selling entire junkyard pulls for about $800.

I had it happen to me a while back and i upgraded to 6.7 disc and it worked great, I had 6.2 in there. Now i upgraded to 6.8 and haven't had any issues. But it could be due to a weak CD-ROM drive. Its same type as your computer's drive, imagine how long its been spinning for.... sensors get weak. $1800= after market plus least $500 in your pocket.
