XM OR SIRIUS!?
Just curious as to which the majority of you all prefer. Im looking to subscribe but not sure exactly which company to go with as there are pros and cons to both. Any input/advice would be greatly appreciated!

Re: XM OR SIRIUS!?
XM is now commercial free on music channels.
I've had XM for years and wont leave home without it (and at home, at work, and wifes car). I've never really gave my opinions because I didnt have much experience with Sirius. However, after having a loaner with Sirius for a few days, I can say was not impressed at all.
Firstly, I was in Dallas and I can only compare that area. XM has an advantage in the south. That said, Sirius dropped out more times than I could count. It was pretty frustrating. The loaner had the antenna on the trunk, my XM is on the back deck on my coupe. Sirius SHOULD have been better. It wasnt. Perhaps the tuner in the loaner was faulty. I hope it was, 'cause many overpasses caused dropouts. Only if I get caught under an large overpass for an extended period do I ever see dropouts like that with my XM tuner.
Again, XM and Sirius have different strategies, orbits and terrestrial repeater locations. If youre up north, perhaps this is exactly the opposite in Sirius' favor. Dunno.
I mostly listed to the reggae station on Sirius. It seemed to lack some depth I'm used to on The Joint. I happen to like Ska and roots.. but didnt hear much of that on the times/days I listen to Sirius. This also may depend on the genre youre interested in. I've heard that Sirius had better DJs and localized content (vs all of XM is broadcast from DC). I didnt find this to be the case personally.
Sirius has demo streams, so you can check that out. XM has static streams for demo. Its all personal taste really.

Re: XM OR SIRIUS!?
I've had XM for about 5 months and while I love the no commercial aspect of it I have to say that the music selection on XM is rather obscure. I switched stations for the first month looking for music I recognize and I finally ended up listening to only 1 station.
So when I got my G35 I wanted to try Sirius, I gave their 3 day evaluation a try and I must say the music selection is right up my alley. I'll be getting a Sirius receiver.

Re: XM OR SIRIUS!?
For me Sirius is the better bet because of the free internet streaming and their pop dance channel (The Beat 66) is better than the ones on XM. Octane, the Pulse, and Hair Nation are well suited for me as well.
However, XM has better top 40 programming. Sirius gives you a single choice - Hits 1 - which is heavily dominated by rap and hip hop. They don't really have an "Adult top 40" channel. The Pulse works in a pinch but it's much too retro to be a true "adult" current hits channel.
XM, on the other hand, gives you several top 40 choices, three different top 40 channels as well as an adult contemporary channel.

Re: XM OR SIRIUS!?
I'm with djrobx on this one.
I've got 20 On 20 (20 songs voted on by XM users, changed hourly), Mix, KISS XM, MTV, etc. programmed for top 40 stuff. Other than that, I really like the talk stations of XM. I listened to Sirius while I was in FL for a month, and sort of missed some of the stations. If you know where to find them, you can find music stations for any taste... Sirius was little more focused on offering so many different options that it didn't really main-stream too many of them. Six of one, half-dozen of the other.

I have XM in two cars and love it. The comedy channel is great. Sirius has the advatange in Football. You can listen to any game and get a streaming score box. Other than that XM is the way to go.

Re: XM OR SIRIUS!?
If you live in or near a metro area, XM has a substantial number of terrestrial repeater stations that improve reliability and chances of getting unbroken reception.

Re: XM OR SIRIUS!?
I tried out both streams (online) for Sirius and XM
Sirius had better music IMO....XM just played stuff that was way too underground I guess.
Going from mainstream broadcast radio to that is kinda shocking
Sirius has some real nice dj channels.

Re: XM OR SIRIUS!?
Good question! I struggled with this choice as well. I came to the conclusion both XM and Sirius are excellent satellite radio companies. It is important you substantially listen to both and take a close look at the stations they offer and compare it to your musical/entertainment needs. I understand Sirius is having some financial issues. This is one of the main reasons they picked up Howard. I have Sirius and am satisfied with it. But I know XM customers are quite satisfied with its service. I like the oldies channels (60s, 70s, and 80s) and I felt Sirius offered a better selection of music. I don't think you can go wrong with either service providing Sirius doesn't go under.
