Wiring Potential Issue.

So I've been thinking of a stereo upgrade, just a sub an amp with stock components. I have an issue that I haven't really wrapped my head around. I'm wondering if I'm going to need a separate battery. I already have a 4 gauge running from my battery for my compressors for my air ride setup. Would I be able to run another 4 gauge off of my battery terminal or is this too much of a strain? All feedback is appreciated!

you wont "need" another battery id say, your 4 ga will be fine assuming you are not drawing alot of current like 1000 true watts or higher from your amp. you should be fine. run the FUSED 4 ga from the battery to the amp. ive never had a air setup before so im not sure if it draws alot of power. test the power at your amp with a multimeter to see how many volts your car drops to with the system playing. if it drops under 12v then try upgrading the big 3. if volts still dropping then try second battery to see if it helps voltage. if it still drops then you need to upgrade your alternator.

you could get a distribution block and split the 4 ga from battery to two 4 ga wires and run one to amp and one to air setup.

Hmmm, that distribution block sounds interesting. Ill have to have a look at them. Is there any power loss from it being split?

yes im sure you will lose some power. but if you are really worried about the power loss because of the split change your main wire to something thicker like 0 or 1/0 ga.

1/0 ga ->fuse block ->1/0 ga -> distribution block -> dual 4 ga out
