to improve our BOSE system
which speakers would u change first? im planning on upgrading my speakers but cant afford to all of them rite now, so just wondering which speakers and brand would make the most difference for now, with a JL 10w7 (if that matters or not).
Re: to improve our BOSE system
Change the fronts and put in either Infiniti's or MB Quart

or Focals or any other quality speaker. Then change out the amp, add a subwoofer and voila...a great system.
Also, this has been covered many times before. A search would turn up a lot of useful information.

Re: to improve our BOSE system
I guess the ultimate question is how much do you have to spend? Are you planning future upgrades like an amp, sub, doubleDIN conversion? IF you are planning on doing all of this eventually, you should probably wait and save your money and then DO IT ALL ONE TIME.
From my experiences, doing all one time will end up cheaper for you since you won't have to buy and install LOCs and the labor costs will be less since they only have to take apart your car once.
Simply upgrading the stock speakers will improve (albeit minimally IMO) your sound quality but most people aren't/weren't satisfied with just that.
******Most people, though, seem to be satisfied with just swapping out the stock speakers and adding an aftermarket amp with LOCs KEEPING the stock deck. If you read many of the posts on this topic, this is probably the most common upgrade and what most people are happy with (or can afford... lol).
For some, like me, the stock deck sucks and have swapped that out as well along with the amp and speakers. I mean who uses a tape player anymore (unless you listen to a lot of books on tape during your daily commute....but then again why do you need a sound quality upgrade if you listen to books...lol)
Some people have added an EQ to the stock system which has improved the quality and they were happy with that.
Others have had no money so to do a simple upgrade, they either:
1. Added the $0.99 RadioShack 10uF resistor to the stock tweeter for improved highs from the stock tweeter.
2. Simply changed out the stock tweeter to an aftermarket one like the Infinity tweeter.
Again, it all depends on how much you have/want to spend. If your plans are to upgrade the whole system EVENTUALLY, save your money and do it all one time AFTER A LOT OF PERSONAL RESEARCH. (reading these threads for subjective opinions, good/bad install experiences, etc.) If you have the chance to listen to other drivers' systems at a G outing better yet. Plan, plan, plan...dont' be impulsive like me and do incremental upgrades to which I have spent more in the end. I did a FULL audio upgrade and it would have been cheaper to wait and do it all one time.
I, myself, used the Infinity Perfect and Kappa components, bought from www.etronics.com and are very happy with them. I did research on the Focals, MB Quarts, Polks and Eclipses and for the cost and performance, I picked the Infinity line.
hope this helps.

Re: to improve our BOSE system
joepaniolo, thank you for your long response. as of rite now, i have my double din on order, and a JL 10w7. im happy with the sub, but it just doesnt sound like im gettin the full potential of this sub. i know an aftermarket head unit will make a huge difference, but i was thinking would the tweeters make the difference as well. anyways, your response was really helpful thanks again
Re: to improve our BOSE system
simply adding the 10uF resistor to the stock tweeter may be satisfactory and it will only cost you $1.98 +tax!
swapping out only the stock tweeter also maybe satisfactory for you too and will run you about $100 (depending on the quality and cost of an aftermarket tweeter)
But if you already have your doubleDin on order, I would just upgrade the ENTIRE front components with 6.5" seperates like the Infinitiy Perfect 6.1 or soemthing comparable.
Some people use cheaper components in the rear since the speaker quality is most important for the front soundstaging of your system. Some have even removed the rear shelf 6x9's since they have trunk subs and the 6x9's really don't add much more improved sound quality.
I have always wondered if replacing the fronts and rear shelf speakers AND THEN REMOVING the backseat side panel speakers would create a good sound quality.....

Re: to improve our BOSE system
Joe is right on again...
I have done each of the mods recommended in this order
1. changed the tweeter cap --- improvement
2. swapped out the tweeters (i used Alpines) -- another step up
3. change door speakers to Focal components/Phoenix Gold Amp -- MAJOR step up
4. add subwoofer (Infinity basslink) disconnected stock 6x9 (and added outboard EQ) -- Another Major Step up
My next step is a custom 12" sub box and separate sub amp, then.....who knows!
Others have taken other routes to get better sound, but the main order of upgrade (from lower cost to higher cost) is stated above.
I think the door components /amp/EQ were the biggest improvementa, and If I could only have one ot those then I'd take the EQ. Ultimately I think the system needed the EQ the most.
Not counting the subwoofer, which added something the OEM system was missing completely.
BTW my rear sides and rear decks are disconnected .

Re: to improve our BOSE system
Hi, I just got my 2003 G35 Sedan
Never a big bose fan - years ago I had an infiniti and had the bose speakers with Amplification so they were not worth changing out.
I have some old parts laying around I could probably use:
Nakamichi 1" tweeters, no crossover though.
Can I just buy the Radio shack caps and use my nak tweeters or is there something else I need to do.
I will probably just take my time on this and do it in steps.
Thanks,
m
