My Double Din Install

My Double Din Install
I just thought I would post up a picture of my install and my thoughts on the Metra Wire Harness (7551) vs. the PAC ROEM-NIS2.
First of all, I installed an Avic Z2 using the Metra harness. I picked this harness originally because it was simple. I have completed 5-6 installs and figured I could do the work for the more complicated harnesses, but who likes to do more work. After completing the install I had sound, and it wasn't extremely quite like some others have experienced, but it was not extremely loud. This means I could turn the unit up to the max 40 and with the AC full blast, it wasn't easy to hear over the AC.
I know the Bose amp is weak, so I thought about replacing it, but I figured before I went through all of that, I would give the PAC ROEM-NIS2 a chance since I had heard people had success. So I tore the dash back apart, undid the Metra harness and started sodering the new PAC ROEM-NIS2 in the unit. Once I turned on the unit, the sound output was 4-5 times what it was with the Metra unit. If I go above 20 now, it will likely blow the speakers out.
So, for my conclusion, I understand the Metra harness works for a lot of you and I am not degrading the product, I am just saying in my situation with a low sound output, the PAC ROEM-NIS2 did the trick.
Thanks for reading, sorry that the picture is a little blurry; it was dark and I didn't have a lot of time.

I have a kenwood DNX5120 and first installed it with the 7551, output was very weak, I had to turn it near maximum to get it loud, it was loud enough but felt I was near the clipping point of the HU. I then switched to the PAC ROEM-NIS2, much much better, I turn the volume up half way and sounds just as loud with no clipping.
I would only recommend the 7551 if you have a HU with 4V or greater preamp outs.

Both would be good, I like having a large collection when people have questions about how something shoudl be wired up, or where something's located... but primarily how it was wired with the sound too quiet with the 70-7551.
But having a picture of the ROEM-NIS correctly wired can't hurt.

Holy crap ive been wondering about this the entire time!!! My radio is nowhere NEAR as loud as it was with the OEM head unit and i have the Metra kit, im going to order the other one ASAP and try it out and see if i get the same results.
God this thread is the best thing that has happened to me this week!
BTW DNX9140 is the HU i have, the preouts are like 5v, but seriously the radio is WEAK for what the OEM has.

06g35meister, would you mind doing detailed pictures of how your harness is wired up? I had no volume issues with my car wired the way I recommend, so I'm trying to find somebody who can possibly video (so we can hear how quiet the quiet is) and show exactly how it's wired, because my 05 sounded just as loud as stock to me when I wired it up and video'd the result:
(And no, that isn't full volume at all, just loud enough to show that it's not quiet at all)

I am trying to track down the photos, not sure where I put them. But, I did have it hooked up the way you did in the video with a proper ground on all the ground wires. I soldered all the wires and taped them up.
I am unsure why the sound was lower than expected. Originally I had an Eclipse head unit and the sound was fine with it and the 7551 harness.
