Just installed my DD

I decided to upgrade the stereo in my G.

I bought the Clarion VX400. It has BT, plays DVD, Sirius, HD radio, iPhone/iPod control.

I am not going to go into the "how-to" cause it has already been documented here a few times.

I used this video to help me remove and replace it.
Infiniti G35 Radio Replacement

I used the Metra Kit for the dash. Now this kit is ok. For a $150 kit, I would expect a little more from it. A little more R&D and this would be a nice kit. Metra's directions say to install one way and buy the time you need to install the metal bracket on the back, it doesn't fit so well. So I had to modify it so it would. Its got a flush fit and I like it. The buttons do look out of place, but it would do.

I also got the Metra harness also. This harness seems to work good. My problem with it is that for some reason it sounds a little distorted. But I have only played the radio on it so far, as it was freakin hot when I got done.

So here is my after pic.

I was originally going to go the Crutchfield route, but found the parts cheaper on ebay stores.

Radio - $360
Dash kit - $150
Wire Harness - $18

All with free shipping. Crutchfield had the radio alone for $449 open box.

That has to be one of the cleanest DD setup ever. It looks almost OEM, fit is perfect no gaps around. Looks great.

Me like, but whenever you get extra cash to spare. Grab yourself a jdm kit.

Always good to see another conversion complete.

Just to encourage others - was this your first install ever, or at least your first time taking the dash apart?

+1 on getting a jdm dd kit. IMO Metra just looks too cheap.

The Metra buttons are cheap, that's why they look cheap.

But not to take anything away from Stephen's set up, the Metra kit, in my opinion actually matches the trim for the 03-04 models. I don't think it looks bad at all. I just wish it had better buttons then those crappy ones.

I can't wait to see it in person, Stephen. I'm assuming you will be at the dyno day on the 28th?

Yeah I had the bracket installed on the HU but it sat back a bit and I wanted the flush fit. So I added the extra pieces that came with the metra kit and then put the metal bracket around that, it was a tight fit but it works and looks great.
