Ok.. so I'd like to have boxes like the 4080 but for 12" subs. And I can't find them ANYWHERE. So I have to use the closes thing I can find until i get more practice in to make my own.
So here's my question.

- 1.15 cubic feet each

- 6-5/8" mounting depth

- 3/4" and 1/2" MDF Construction

I know the answer is in front of me. But Yeah... lol 4am kinda cant figure it out.

The subs came in their own enclosures, and they fit in my old integra. Best thing about a hatchback, not much WON'T fit in your car lol

But there is too much box for a G.
so... if they will fit, should i get the boxes vented too?

167 millimeters = 6.57480315 inches
6 5/8" = 6.625
So... you've got 1/20th of an inch to play with, but regardless of that, your sub wants 2.5 cubic feet of space, that's much more than the 1.15 in that box. Some polyfill might make up for that, but either way, it's not going to be optimal.

There's a reason 10" is the best for the 4080-style enclosure - it's just the right amount of airspace for just about any 10" sub.

If you do put them in a ported box be sure to follow the specs for a ported box with those subs, otherwise you'll make them sound like crap.

 

Ok, do you think polyfill would compensate for a whole cubic foot and then some?
It kinda makes me angry that sedans can get one for 12".

Looks like I'm going to be stuck with a huge box taking up my trunk. I was hoping to keep SOME trunk space. And was trying to avoid keeping the subs sitting where things like groceries could touch/fall into them.

Guess I'll just start looking for some sub boxes that will take up the back part of the trunk.. like right behind the seats, but separated so they're kinda angled inward. that might be an option...

any advice/ideas?

But it's still only 1.2 cu ft.

Beyond that, you're pretty much limited to having something custom built or a generic cube

Polyfill is usually to make up for smaller differences in box volume, not something like only have 1/2 the recommended volume.

 

Yeah, I was looking at zenclosures earlier. but hadn't looked at the cu ft. yet. Hopefully I'll be able to find something. I might just have to make my own that is shorter, but wider than the ones mine came in.
Damn... I just thought about it. I'm going to need 5 cu ft. for both of those subs... damn, how many cu ft is the trunk?
Might have to just put 1 of them in there. Just 1 hits hard as hell. Might have to hook up my girlfriends car with the other one.. ugh.. lol

They are FUSION PowerPlant 12" Subwoofers.

THE 1.2 cube box above will work

thats 1.2 cubes sealed...for one sub at least

 

2.5 ported for this type of 12" sub is way to big

I like 1.5 cubes ported ~33hz -~35 hz

gives a nice even response and can be boomy if you want

or 1 cube sealed

thats about the "best" for most 12" subs

 

Ah, the more detailed manual for those subs shows recommended sealed enclosure is 1.0 cu ft!

So... I could get the originally boxes i was looking at?! They were 1.15 ct ft. I could get ported or sealed. I don't know much about the differences for ported and sealed.



Mind you, these will only be temporary. In all honesty.. I SHOULD go with the single box you guys suggested. Who really needs that much bass anyway? lol It would save me money in the long run, because I promised my girl a system. So why not give her one just like mine??

If I can use those, then all i need to be looking for is a good HU! Any suggestions? There's so many to choose from!!

I actually got those for free. My brother worked at a garage a few years back, and the owner owed him, so he got those for me. So..best bang for my buck.. lmao cant get any better than free.

 

Yeah, a single 500w (RMS, none of that "Peak" BS that a lot go by) sub will fill the car enough that anyone should be happy inside the car. If your goal is to project outward or win shows however, you'll want more.

BTW, that setup in the picture is beautiful! Fold-down still available, and some trunk space. It even looks like they might come out without too much effort to get to the spare.

Id do one ported

a ported box in theory is about 3db louder.

Some people like the sound of a sealed box and some like a ported box

it really depends on the sub and install for me

if you like bass heavy music (rap/techno) then a ported box is best

sealed is a bit more on the sound quality side, but still has lots of output

 

Yeah! I know right? I might add a piece to the back if i get those. just to cover up that empty spot at the back. I was taking removability into consideration while looking for boxes too.

I noticed something about the two subs i was listing.
I thought the subs I listed, were the ones that came out of the box that I listed above. But according to specs, it isn't. The box has a RMS of 630, but the sub itself says 500. the "peak" or max "BS" lol was 1200 for them.

If 2.5cu ft was too big, why would it come in a box that big?
I had just 1 hooked up to my 1000watt mono amp in my old integra at first.

I was still kinda thinking about doing two 12's. What I did before was just have the bass turned waaaay down. So it wasn't working either of them that hard. I was getting plenty of normal bass. But when I wanted to, I would just turn the bass setting up and BAM! enough bass to...well... idk.. a **** ton more. lol

so...really, incase it didn't stand out. I looked but cant find it out. Do the two links I listed earlier have the same sub? if not...oops

 

well 1.5 isnt the biggest you can go when a sub says something like that

1.5 is what the techs think sounds best for everyone

typically a larger ported box will be boomy, not always but thats the case most of the time

im not gonna lie, I like a sound quality but man I love to rock the block also...1400rms daily will do that
