some new gadgets and a new set up

I have a 2007 g35x sedan with nav.. It comes with the rca audio and composite video jacks in the center console. There is a little tiny cutout where you can feed your wires out to use them for aux.. Its messy, ugly, annoying and impractical. So I did this..

first, I plugged in the rca (red and white) to 3.5 mm cable.. I ran it through the holes I have drilled in the back part of the inside of the center console (for the switches for the lights) and down past the air vent, under the center carpet and under the rear seat.
(dont worry, the infiniti logo is not attached there, I just have not put it on my front grill yet lol)

From there I used a 15 foot headphone extension to go out the driver side of the rear seat, under the door molding all the way to here

It comes out right next to the left vent where I attached a 20 dollar vent mount from radio shack.. this fits my droid perfectly!

I did this whole think for under 50 bucks..
mount-$20
rca to 3.5- $7 (amazon)
15 foot extension- $3.50 (amazon)

I also bought a new radar detector.. I had a cheap 80 dollar one which I wired into my rear view mirror.. I bought the beltronics v995 and did the same invisicord diy thing (safety pins soldered to the power and ground)

Since you were digging under the console anyway, I would have just soldered to the wires coming from the RCA terminals underneath so that nothing was visible in there at all.

Also not a fan of blocking a vent, is it possible to hook it behind the a-pillar cover?

Otherwise, you did an install that's cleaner than 90% of the simple mounts that most people do. Definitely worth the effort.

Thanks man that means allot! and I was actually looking at that.. Im going outside to hard-wire my phone charger into a fuse and grounding spot.. I think im going to hard-wire the rca's too so that I can have another short cable in the center console if a friend wants to play their music or something.

Keep snapping the pictures, it's a great motivator for others to take on the same worthwhile project.

so, I did the hardwired charger today aswell...

first I got an "add a circuit" crimped on a piece of 20 gauge wire and soldered the other end to the end of the car charger which is the power. Then, with another piece of 20 gauge I crimped on a U terminal on one end and soldered the other end to the ground part of the car charger.

covered up the exposed metal with electrical tape.. I didn't have any heat shrink big enough..

here is where I plugged it in, I used the fuse for the front power outlet, kept the 15 amp fuse for that and used a 2 amp fuse for the phone charger

Here is where I grounded it.. to the bracket for the hood lever

beginning to rout the cable

the add a circuit stuck out to far so I had to mod the fuse box cover..

I was going to add some u channel molding or at least file it down better but then I realized its way under the dash and no one will ever see it.. but then my OCD kicked in and I smoothed it down to perfection.. I will take a pic of that tomorrow

I would have found an alternative to cutting the fuse box, but good writeup.

yah, that gaping add-a-circuit is an eye sore.

if you're only pulling a few amp you can use these taps which are low profile...

Amazon Amazon

Amazon Amazon

for radar detectors i dont usually even use a add-a-circuit and just
tin the thin wire (black 2 conductor modular telephone cord) and push it
into the fuse box with a switched fuse. i solder a 2A fuse in series going to
the radar detector.

looks like a fun project though. before you cut anything else, ask for options.

you can get a replacement cover at your dealer.
