JDM ac controller w/o full JDM kit?
JDM ac controller w/o full JDM kit?
Forgive me if this has been discussed before. But, has anyone used this JDM ac controller off of ebay?
http://cgi.ebay.com/JDM-INFINITI-DOUBLE-DIN-A-C-CONTROLLER-G35-2003-2004-/170534298634?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27b4a2e40amy thinkning is that you could use that with the stock trim piece and modify it to fit a DD hu...do-able or no?
description says "note that changing your ac control will disable your climate control". i thinking maybe that's supposed to say will disable your DUAL climate control? ...being that this unit doesn't have the dcc button. i'm going to message them and ask about that.
any insight for me? thanks!

You need to solder the DCC button on to the JDM unit if you want it. Also the stock board is not configured the same, there are thread on this somewhere that you can dig up.
It has been discussed, bottom line, if you're really good at doing custom work, you can do it, otherwise, you'll end up with something that looks worse than the metra kit for more than the metra kit.
If you're that broke looking for replacements for an 03-04, the Metra kit is cheaper and looks ok.
Otherwise, quit pinching pennies and get the full JDM replacement.

Am I broke, for now...pretty much, yeah. Am I cheap anyway, yeah. You wouldn't be the first one to call me cheap. I'd rather spend my time than my money, most of the time. I think the metra kit looks cheap and it most likely will not be in my car.
The seller on ebay answered my question (that was quoted from their ad, above). It is supposed to have "dual" in there. My car doesn't have dcc so, that's no big deal to me.
Now, being that I haven't pulled that trim piece off yet to look at it, anyone have any reason not to attempt replacing the ac controls on the stock piece? I see this modification as probably being much simpler than some of the stuff I've built from scratch in the past...simply put, I'm not scared of modifying or making things. Its fun to do. The $200 I'd save going this route vs buying the full JDM kit will likely buy me a stereo, or atleast mostly pay for it.
Wrathernaut, I read your article...very informative, thanks!

The buttons for the JDM will work on the stock piece. I wish you luck on your attempts to do clean modifications to to stock one... if you look up the rosewood dash modification, it may give you some hints as to what you'll need to do with your 03 dash, even though the rosewood was an 05-07 one:
