If this is all too much to think about on your own, you can pick the mind of someone at your local shop. Chances are they'll try to sell you things you wont need but, if this is your first time around i'd probably just bite the bullet and deal with the extra cost. If you're up for looking into it on your own there are hundreds of thousands of DIY write ups scattered across the net on how to do the install. Just do some searching on how to instal and tune a stereo and you can probably get through it, otherwise there's plenty of people here or on the12volt.com who could help you out with any problems you find. If you have any other questions feel free to PM me and i'll do my best to answer any questions you might have.

Okay, with a $1000 budget here's my suggestion:
$150 Metra kit (if you're an 03-04) or $300 JDM kit (amazon.com for metra, check my shopping list for JDM)
$350 Pioneer 3200DVD headunit (sonicelectronix.com, comes w/antenna adapter and wiring harness free through them)
$40 PAC SWI-PS (amazon)
$40 4-gauge amp wiring kit
-subtotal of $580-740-

You never specified if you had the Bose or not.
If you have Bose:
Replace the amp with the remaining money.
$370 Amp (JL for support of the Bose headunit's differential-balanced output) - http://www.woofersetc.com/p7216/G660...-Amplifier.htm

If you dont' have bose:
$90 Amp: http://www.woofersetc.com/p6418/Di30...-Amplifier.htm
$180 Sub: http://www.woofersetc.com/p9262/SA10...-Subwoofer.htm
$50 Box - A generic 10" box in the .6 cubic foot range from a local car audio place.

ive been looking at prices and honestly i can save up some more money and get the nicer system....wondering what the difference is between the pioneer 4200 dvd? and the 6800 dvd?? besides the crazy price....No i dont believe their is Bose. im looking at Jl subs and wondering what everyone thinks if i should just get 1 10W7? or maybe 2 10W6's? and what amps would be best for the two...

Dude, forget about jl audio.

What's the total amount you're willing to throw at this? i'd use what you have now to prep

Get some sound deadening in the doors and the hatch area
do the big 3
and get a better upfront battery.

Then you can start to pick stuff up.

I put one of these into a maxima yesterday and they impressed the hell out of me

2 of them ported would be enough for you and you'll save some space.

So you go from a $1k budget to checking out a 10W7?

If you're going to want a $3k system in your car, don't put a $1k system in first.

Doing the big 3's probably more than you need if all you're doing is a $1k system, but if you're looking at $3k or so, then it'll get you a good solid foundation before you go further.

3k would be a nice budget for a system, though
