Have you tried other phones? Maybe there is an issue with the bluetooth connection.

I personally think it's the bluetooth unit as I've never had any complaints about people not being able to hear me or bad call quality.

I did some checking around, it seems the Parrot systems use omnidirectional mics.

What I did now was soldered a 3.5mm female jack on the end of it to test out several different mics.

I will post my results if any one is interested. I think a relocation as you suggested Wrathernaut maybe the solution. Along with a better mic.

And yes I noticed the one I asked about (after I posted it, my bad) was omnidirectional.

I have tried my blackberry too (work phone) same results.

I couldn't find anything about whether the garmin one I use is omni-directional or not, but it's $15 and works well.

I tried, but I was in a bit of a rush. It was not listed as such on the Garmin site, or the sites I saw selling it.

If you found information that it is omnidirectional please link to it.

Doubt it, otherwise you couldn't hear them fine, which the OP says he can.

That only leaves the bt unit itself...

Weird thing is, is that when I do a memopad record, it is very clear. I will test some more with my blackberry this time, to see if I get different results...

I am thinking this new mic is good, my friend said it was louder, but still garbled.

Are you trying with the vehicle in motion for all the tests?

I'm assuming the microphone your using will work fine with the stock HU? I plan on splicing it onto the existing wires if so.
