has anyone fabricated a faceplate/cover for double din headunits?
I've been looking at all the pictures of these double din units in the G35, and they look great...but they all stick out and say "take me". Has anyone fabricated something along the lines of what this guy in the video did? And if I ever did, it would look just like a plain radio or something. I may laminate an HD picture of the factory radio or something to it instead of putting "jdm" like this guy did.
Not that I've seen, but I plan to do it with my OEM trim once I'm back home and have access to my tools. So long as you're steady with your cut, you should be able to just inset the radio about an eighth of an inch to accommodate the cutout of the factory trim in the DDin opening.
I thought about getting a piece of silver plastic that matches the center trim...and instead of putting a factory head unit picture or some fake on it, what if I glued(or secured in some other way), 2 cupholders to it in a very neat and very OEM looking way? A lot of luxury cars have cupholders that sit up in the center console(BMW for one). A passerby wouldn't have any clue the G35 headunit is supposed to be underneath. They might think it's up by the A/C and clock display stuff, like in a Mazda 6.
^ but anybody who knows G35s enough to know how to steal an aftermarket unit fast enough to be worth the risk would know that something was up, and that there definitely was something worth stealing inside.
