poor radio reception

I just completed a nice stereo install, but kept the factory HU. For some reason, I have experienced a MASSIVE loss in radio reception after the install. I had the shop pull it apart and double check the connection for the antenna, but everything looks fine... but this is thier first G35 install. Anyone have any ideas that I could pass on to my shop to help fix this problem?

Re: poor radio reception

There is an antenna signal amplifier. Any chance you may have disconnected it?

Re: poor radio reception

If the antenna cable has been moved around and is now closer to some power lines you will experience a lot of interference. Try moving around the cable and see if you can get better reception.

Re: poor radio reception

I tried the same thing 2 months ago when i had my Pioneer AVIC-N1 in.... connected the power antenna wire from the Pioneer and no improvement was observed.
Good luck though and let us know if you find a solution.

Re: poor radio reception

oh..i noticed a big difference. But if you have your rear windows tinted, then u r screw. My radio reception was much better after i did that wiring. Before i couldn't pick up any station. Now i can pick almost all the FM signal and only two AM station. Still it sound like crap that is because my window is tinted.

Re: poor radio reception

i think thats a myth.
Most tint is dye based and non-metalic, it also goes on the INSIDE of a windshield and not the exterior, so it shouldnt have much effect on reception theoretically speaking... i dont know what to tell you besides that my stock bose system works perfectly with or without Tint, compared to crappy reception with my Pioneer headunit.

Re: poor radio reception

another factor to the poor reception is that we need to get an antena adapter to work with after market headunit.

Re: poor radio reception

Well, I printed out ALL of the wiring diag. for the antenna & antenna amp. So far, everything is properly connected at the head unit, but there is still a possibility that the installers bumped something when installing the 6X9s. We're going to tear everything out again and check the antenna amp as specified in the service manual. If we find an absolute fix, I'll let ya' know.
