I've been loud and do it for the sq nowdays. What ever you buy make sure its the best product for the $$ or don't buy it. JL entry level is better than most peoples high end.
w0? w1? please

w3, w6, and w7 are the only decent subs in the jl's lineup

And honestly, for the price of the drivers, you can get better stuff if you know where to look.

Need a ultra low distortion sub like the w6? get a diy shiva, malestorm, morel ultimo, etc etc

Need low distortion and some spl like the w7? get an fi q, ssa icon, id idmax and 23487834 other drivers that'll do what the w7 can do plus more.

Need a decent sounding driver like the w3? get a dayton ho, sundown sa, id idq..etc etc

OP, see if you can talk your friend into a lower price for 1 sub and the hifonics amps

the 8" and 10" l7's can sound pretty decent in a properly designed and tuned low ported box.

I agree but you buy jl beacuse its sexy and you know it performs the way it should. I can buy Ariel atom because its faster than the Skyline but which would you rather have? The best for the money at this stage is a W1 and an amp he can build from. He can put the amp on his highs later. I'd go W3 or w6 but I don't have an $800 budget.

Dude needs loud and you're recommending a w6.

Op, listen to the advice you're getting. Don't be like spitfire that bought a sundown sa and stuffed it into a tiny flimsy fiberglass enclosure. Dude decided to bad talk sundown because of his mistakes smh

^ This x10.

I love my 10w6, but I don't think for a second it's the best for price by any means. It's kinda like the iPod of the subwoofer game. Very easy to get, good quality, but not the best or cheapest.

If I did it again, I'd probably go IDQ10v3 or Sundown SA-10.

However, I'd buy another set of Boston Acoustics Pro60se's in a heartbeat. I've barely missed my 10w6 while I waiting for the amp replacement (warranty), they're that good. I'm quite sure I'd fool 90% of your friends into thinking the sub was still hooked up with how well they perform.

Pro60's are awesome. I considered them for my moms ride before i got the id xs 65's. Rep at boston told me they'd take a clean 400w long term & sound better with the more power you give them.

Oh man I wish I knew as much as you guys lol this is great info. So I want LOUD and my budget it about a grand let's say without the headunit because I already have that. I don't car about brand name or anything. JL subs and amps looks hella sexy but I just want the best sounding for the cheapest. I wanted to put 2 10's in my trunk but I feel like u guys don't recommend that?

So what should I do with myself guys? Haha if anybody really knows what they're talking about, and know what I should get to have the loudest system possible for that money, please PM me. Thank you everybody for helping me out it means a lot guys!

I can testify that they sound better with more power. Like I've said a few times now, they're my sole provider of sound right now, so I've been cranking the volume up a bit more than usual... I wish I didn't care about my hearing, I'd have them cranked all the time.

that's it.
There is no point in getting a HU if he only wants a sub. I'd LOC or something similar to the REQ5 by MTX.

As far as subs, I'd recommend a Fi Q, maybe a Fi BTL if you are going to build a box to handle it, Kicker L7, SSA ICON, RE SE (older) or MT if you can afford it and will do the appropriate box.

Here is an SE for 160

*EDIT*
My opinion is also go with a single 12" or 15" instead of multiple subs. Get a can of fix a flat and take out your spare tire

Alright sorry I'm so late guys.

Ok so I don't care about my trunk space, I already took out my spare I have a can.
So I'm thinking 1 15" L7 idk what kind of amp though and my friends headunit which I'm getting for free.
Next I just have wires installation and possibly a capacitor right?

Is that the best I can do with my circumstances right now?

dont worry about a cap, it wont help

if you get a new head unit you need to set aside at least $200 for a dash kit

im not sure If a 15" (with a box) will fit thought the trunk opening. You may have to build a box in the trunk. not for certain on that though.

do you have a coupe of sedan?

an L7 will handle 1000rms, so find an amp that does 1000-1200rms @ 1 ohm.
