There is a big grommet right behind the battery and a smaller one near the driver side foot well

do I need to remove the battery itself? I took off the main battery cover...with those pins....do I need to take off any more plastic pieces?

You'll need to take off the battery cover and the plastic piece that it snaps into. Next you'll remove the passenger side wiper cowl, which is just held in with clips. After removing the wiper cowl you'll see the wire and grommet. Cut a little slit in the grommet and push the wire through. Then your all done.
