Purpose of 03-06 rear center Bose speaker

Today, i was messing around with my stock Bose setup in my '06 Sedan while on lunch. I turned the fade to full rear and noted most of the sound came from the 2 door speakers, and very little came from the rear center speaker.

Also, while playing around, i noticed that most of the bass from the factory setup came from the two front door speakers, with the two rear door speakers having considerably less bass.

A hand on the rear center speaker shows that it does work, but volume is very low.

My system sounds fine (as good as OEM gets), so i never noticed anything until today.

Is this center rear speaker a sub? A mid/low or is it a tweeter? I always thought it was a sub...but there is practically nothing coming from it?

Blown speaker perhaps? or normal?

Yeah, they call it a sub, but it's the most pathetic excuse for a shallow-mount sound reproductive item I've ever seen. I didn't think it was so bad until I removed the basket from under it and realized it's got less range of motion and cone area than my tweeters do.

But if you guys turn fade to full rear, do you get noticeable bass from it?

I don't know if it is behaving normally, or if I need to look into something here

I don't think the sub would be effected by fade. But I will leave it to the experts to confirm this.

There are only four channels that go to the Bose amplifier, so it is affected by the fade, since there's no channel that's not front or rear (and thus subject to fade adjustments) that goes to the amp.

So does mine. Even my side mirrors shake.

What I noticed was that most bass comes from two front lower door speakers. Rear doors seem like full range and rear sub barely has any bass at all.

Turn fade to full rear...then tell me how much you center sub feels like it outputs
