Cold morning. CD skipping probs?

I wanted some feedback on whether anybody else was having issues with their CD player skipping upon startup in the morning? The last couple of weeks I've noticed when the car is started up and generally when it is cold my cd player skips irregardless of what CD is in there. After a little while it stops completely. Today it was in the low 40s and it skipped for probably 5 mins before it finally stopped.

Anybody else have a similar situation with the colder mornings or upon starting up in general? I intend to take it in for service but it would be good to know if others have suffered the same issue.

Thanks

Re: Cold morning...CD skipping probs?

My cd player (Bose) does the same thing when it is cold out.
I've checked the discs themselves, and they're fine. It takes a few minutes for the player to get control of itself and not skip.

Have you had the problem of your front left speaker cutting out at all while playing a cd?

I haven't really noticed anything like that. I'll have to listen for that specifically.

I sure hope Infiniti doesn't give me crap about this issue. They'll have to keep it over night just to replicate the issue no doubt. I wonder if they would replace with a 2005 CD player and if there are any differences?

Mine does the same thing until the car warms up. I have a feeling that it may be condensation on the discs or laser. It stops within about 5 minutes...nothing to worry about.

Condensation is fogging up your CD player laser just like the windows. There isn't really anything you can do about it that I know of other than moving to a warm climate so you don't get as much condensation from those cold mornings.

Re: Cold morning...CD skipping probs?

That doesn't really explain much. My MDX or Suburban have 6 disc players too and I have never had consensation problems with them either. If that was the case I would have had this problem during the very humid days in summer, no?

I think it has to do with the cold and a defective design without enough tolerance for "shrinkage" of components.

I'll hit the dealer in a week or two I guess.

Re: Cold morning...CD skipping probs?

I live in Florida where it is often very humid, but the windows don't fog up at all. When I lived in the midwest, the windows would fog up like crazy in cool weather like this time of year. Also, a little known fact is that CD players skip more while playing CD-R's compared to regular CD's. So if you're playing a CD-R the chance for skipping is higher. CD-R's are not as reflective as regular CD's and they reflect less of the laser beam which makes them more prone to skipping.

Re: Cold morning...CD skipping probs?

I experience the same thing also. A year back I was in Alabama and I noticed it. However I moved to sunny Arizona and only recently when the temperature dropped did it reoccur. I don't know if I want to go to the dealer, coz I'm too afraid that they'll screw more things up than fixing it. Anyway, the skipping goes away after a while.

i live in canada, where it is cold now and I have been experiencing the same problem. ( CD is skipping the first 5-10 min, when car is cold) Is this a common problem for the car? Should I get it fixed? Will the dealership replace the unit and will it make a difference once replaced?

the problem of the CD skipping isnt something the dealer can correct.

the problem they can correct is the CD player not playing at all. this will also fix any speakers that are cutting out. I currently have this problem on my coupe. Its going into the shop the day after thanksgiving day for a oil change the cd player to be replaced.

I also need assistance on a speaker prob!!

Thanks for the response.I have been also noticing lately that my front left speaker is really weak ( Compared to the right speaker!) I confirmed it by changing the alance volume setting. I have read that some ppl were having problems with the left front speaker (not sure if it's the same prob!) Can someone confirm? Is that something the dealership can fix?

I've had Nissan/Bose CD players/Changers for years... this is the only one I've ever had this issue with. The Alpine CD player I had in 1991 had the ability to dehumidify itself.

This is clearly a Clarion CD mechanism problem, they make our Bose in dash changer. Clarion had a HUGE problem in their CD mechs with all their retail products a few years ago. I suspect we also got that same mechanism.

Mine just started this after 2.5 years. I just listen to XM until its warm. Of course I get to enjoy the OEM Clarion XM tuner resetting itself every once and awhile too. I dont think I'd ever buy their stuff again. I tried to find the VRX-925 indash DVD they made a few years ago. Every dealer in town told me not to buy it and they wouldnt sell it (because I'd be back in a few weeks to have it replaced). I have friends who swear by their Pro line stuff. The rest seems to be of very questionable quality. I really wish Nissan would find another OEM for radios. Why they havent after all this problems is bizarre.
