Single Din Help

Well before I made this new post, I read all the stickies and ran a few searches. I'm sure the answer is out there but I just cant find it.

I have a 2003 G35 Coupe with Bose System.
Like many others my AC controls and stereo is fried (couple good smacks and it works temporary)

I want to buy a single din to replace the unit. I read up on lots of info on double dins, including the sticky'd shopping parts list. Are these parts the same for both single and double din? I don't have a lot of money and want to replace my stereo so it'll fix my problems. Is there a way to modify my climate control to accept a single din deck?

I believe all the metra kits are double/single din units that work with both, but with JDM you'll have to get a single-din cubby pocket to fill the gap below.

You can't modify the stock circuit board without an advanced electrical engineering degree, so you'd at least need the JDM climate controls, which alone cost more than a Metra dash + controls kit, but you can modify the stock trim and build your own pocket and such with some creativity and a dremel.

Thanks for the help. Bought a dremel and was just about to tackle this project but I had to think... If I just cut up the stock trim, the problem with the AC and climate control will still exist? I'm assuming I read up correctly somewhere that it has to deal with the climate control itself.

No, the a/c problem won't exist, since you'll either use the metra kit, which comes with its own a/c controller, or you'll have to use the JDM a/c controller.

You can't re-use the original factory climate controls without an advanced electrical engineering degree and some mad soldering skills.

Can I purchase a metra for my G35 with navi and use a dremel to trip the top so that it'll fit?

^ Yeah, can't guarantee it won't look like garbage though.

I think it'd look like garbage simply because the noticeably different buttons the metra kit uses. They'd clash with your nav buttons pretty bad.
