Full Speaker Replacement
Full Speaker Replacement
So I have finally gone nuts listening to my crap stock Bose audio in the G and I am looking to replace everything within the next 2 weeks or so.
I already have a JL3w3 in a 4080 trunk box in the back, a Pioneer Z1 head unit, and now I want to replace all remaining components.
I am fairly new to the sound/audio world and need some advice on where to go from here though. Currently one of my rear deck speakers is messed up and I am getting mixed opinions on whether or not I need to replace these, that's problem my biggest question.
Past that, I just need advice as to what speakers to go with, bearing in mind that everything in the car is going to be replaced. I am not particularly interested in adding additional speakers in new spots.
This is all for an 07 coupe fyi
As always, all feedback is appreciated.

No need for 6x9's when you have a real subwoofer in the back, just remove them from the rear deck completely.
Your budget is the next big thing you need to let us know about.

Budget, looking to stay around 750 range if possible but can easily go up if I really see a big benefit in a higher budget. Not looking for like show quality stuff, but i use some B&O headphone in the gym and i am tired of going from amazing there to **** in the car. Want something that is really clean and crisp

Subwoofers play from 80hz down
A 6x9 or any speaker for that matter will play those frequencies, but you won't have any output.
A few thought's
Going to put the metra kit ( to get the A/C working again ) _
Pioneer D3 DD and change the front speakers ( for stage 1 ) running off the HU built in power..
The speakers are just a minor upgrade and mainly just to get new wiring in the door panels... and to have a new interior door panel installed...
Phase 2 will be a 4 way amp phoenix gold ( 300 WPC, if you believe todays spec.... ) but it will have more oomph then the bose factory amp , hell my Bic lighter will have more ! Plus and a matching phoenix gold 1200 watt mono block to drive 2 10" dual VC alpines...
Here's the question...
The " rear speakers " are the round 5 1/4's in the rear side panels in the coupe?
Would it be better for 2 " quality " full range 2 or 3 ways 6X9's in the rear deck... then the " stock rear's ?
Thanks
Mike

For your second question, it would be better, when you add the subs to remove and not replace the rear deck 6x9s. Anything you put in there will have a hard time playing due to the increased air movement in the trunk from your subs, and keeping anything in those holes will just vibrate and cause more noise, pull them out and toss them when you add the subs, imo. For the stock rear side speakers, it's really personal preference if you want to upgrade them. I'm choosing to leave them alone and go with no rear-fill for my own install, it's two less channels of amplification to worry about and won't muddy up the front stage. I'll leave them installed because I'm lazy and no reason to remove them, but they won't be hooked up (to clarify, I'm talking about the side panel rear speakers here, the rear 6x9s are on the floor in my garage).
Edit: Since your doing your install in phases, it's up to you whether you think it's worth spending money on temporarily upgrading the rear 6x9s. Keeping in mind that they will be tossed when you do add the subs, I guess you need to figure how much it'll cost for new speakers there and how long you'll actually use them. If it were me, I wouldn't bother, just because of the amount of work required to get the rear deck removed to pull them out. I'd rather only have to do that once. Again this is all just an opinion, good luck with the install and let us know how it goes

Hmmmm... and yes the money pit is a coupe
I hear what your saying...A couple of thoughts....
The subs will be rear firing ( eg pointing towards the tail lights ) and will be a hard cut @ 80 so yes there will be a lot of air movement in there... and lets not forget the high quality fiber board insulator between the back of the 6X9's and the trunk air space... so I could see how the sub air motion could really F up the movement of the 6X9's when it's cranked...
Thanks

Ok so here's the plan....
Putting in the AVIC D-3 with a upgrade on the ipod interface, phoenix gold 4 ch amp 2 JBL 6 X 9 3 ways in the sub position, upgraded front door speakers JL CS-2 6.5.. Have all the RCA's & power lines run ( so we won't have to go back in the dash..) and see how that works...
The sub cabinet will arrive monday & the amp has yet to arrive..
So we will see how that shakes out, and if anything isn't up to scratch. well additional upgrades will be in the works....
Car SHOULD be ready round 5 today...
Then AC tomorrow...
