i know there is a diy on an 04 dd conversion, but is there one for an 06?
i just got an alpine w900bt and the mounting sleeve that came with the unit is a real tight fit inside the jdm adapter that i have. im not new to car audio, but new to dds, so i appreciate any help

You mean a dash removal DIY? Think I used this one a few years back:

I shouldn't have to point out this thread:

If you have more specific questions not answered in there, just ask.

wow, thanks a lot man, im sorry, i saw that thread but by the title i thought it was more about shopping for a certain head unit, since i already have one, i didnt open it.

couple questions,

i bought this steering wheel control adapter right before i saw your thread, will this one still work with the w900?

http://cgi.ebay.com/PAC-SWI-JACK-STEERING-WHEEL-CONTROL-4-ALPINE-INA-W900BT-/360351143770?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item53e69a175a
other question, since i plan to only replace the head unit, i guess i need to get the pac-roem-nis2?

i was under the impression that all i needed was what is pictured here:

i still need the pac-roem-nis2?

The swi-jack should work, the one I recommend is just an easier install, particularly for novices.

ok, ill see how it goes.
is it normal for the mounting sleeve that comes with the unit to fit very tight inside the jdm adapter?

Different headunits fit differently, most leave a sizeable gap on the top and bottom, others just are a little tight around the sides. Some minor work with a dremel, or even a file will take care of it.

There's no settings for the factory amp. There's levels for the automatic volume control, but that's entirely in the headunit, not the amp.

The head unit came with a finishing trim piece, I think I'll just cut that down to fit inside the jdm adapter and glue it in there

I only used the top and bottom sections when doing mine.

I fit the JDM trim around the radio with everything in place, then slid the section in beneath the radio to fill the gap. Then I used poster tac to hold it in place, removed the JDM trim from the radio, then secured it permanently in back with hot melt glue.
