does my car have remote start?

so the strangest thing happened last night. My wife and I were meeting some friends for dinner. We park the car, get out, and as I am walking away I press the lock button and my car started.

So I realize this is a bizarre question. was remote start an option on this car?

Or more likely, did a previous owner install a remote start on my car and the dealership I purchased it from just didn't include the fobs? If that were to be the case, anybody have any suggestions on where to look for the remote control box so I can attempt to acquire replacement fobs?

Finally, is it possible that the car would just start it self after walking away? I went back into the car and hit the brake pedal and it turned itself off, and from previous vehicles that is an indication of a remote start installed.

There are some remote starts that can be triggered off of multiple door lock pulses. The easiest thing to do is to try and start it again - 2 or 3 lock pulses is typically what it takes to trigger an aftermarket system.

If there is a system installed it should be under the drivers dashboard. You should be able to poke your head up there and look around without taking much apart. Typically if they are just remote starts the wiring is not hidden very well.

sorry for the slow response - no wire by the rearview mirror. I know what you are talking about, but my 06 explorer didn't have one on the aftermarket remote start / alarm.

So I gave this a try and it worked. I was able to get it to work 2 times, but for the life of me, I can't figure out what the magic combo is, or if there is a way i somehow disabled it with the factory remote. Any further suggestions?

Your best bet would be to get a part number off the brain. Then you can download the manual and figure out how it works.

Well you never listed your year or any model specific info but to my knowledge no G35 (coupe or sedan) has ever been offered with a factory installed remote start.

All remote starts I have seen that are factory installed have a dedicated button on the keyfob for remote start.

You can add an aftermarket module that use's the factory Fobs for remote start. It's the cheapest way to add remote start to a G35. You hit the lock button 2 or 3 times within so much time and it starts the car.

per the user's advice I pulled apart the plastics under the steering wheel and found the module. I was able to google the model number and find out that it is a prestige (audiovox) as9075a which works like you said except that it is "lock, unlock, lock" and that starts the car. I have tested and confirmed that this works.

Thank you to everybody that helped me out.

My 05 g35x sedan also starts with a few presses of the lock button. I should go try and look and see what starter my car was installed with. This is using just the normal key fob
