2004 G35X Backup Camera Installed! DIY
So i just put in a backup camera in my 2004 g35x. Just thought that i should help the people out who were thinking of doing this mod and show them what i did. I know its tough to find the reverse light wire. So heres what you need:
(1) A screen of some sort (navigation) or aftermarket screen
(2) If you have stock navigation screen you will need a module to convert so you can use the yellow rca cable for video input. I used tvandnav2go.
(3) Backup Camera, i used an average one (25$) on ebay
(4) Tools (multimeter, electrical tape,etc)
STEPS:
(1) So first thing i did was test my camera and make sure it actually works by wiring it up and giving constant powersupply from anywhere. It worked.
(2) Set your camera where you want to put it, run the power (12V), Ground, and the video input through a small rubber piece that is behind the license plate area. When you open your trunk and remove the plastic trim pieces where the trunk locks in, you will be able to see your wires
(3) Wire up power to any wire that gets constant 12v when car is started and ground. i used a red and black (Ground) (you will see a bundle of wires) close to wear you fed your wires
(4) Always test using a multimeter to check voltage across wire
(5) Run your yellow rca cable from the tvandnav2go unit along with the 12v reverse light wire to the trunk
(6) Reverse Light- this is the hardest part of this job. For the 2004 g35x, i tapped into the reverse light wire in the trunk. If you follow your wiring from your reverse light you will notice a brownish wire(12v when in reverse) and a black wire (G), follow this wire from the back of the trunk lid into the roof of the trunk itself (bundle of wires). You can tap into this wire and since its the direct powersupply for the reverse light.
(7) Connect your yellow rca cable into the camera
You are set to go, start your car put in reverse and you got yourself a backup camera.

G35 sedan w/ too much money in mods

Pics would be helpful. I'm buying a JVC DD in the near future and will put a back-up camera in so I know they would help me.
Thanks for the DIY.
Btw I did this and I have an 03 Coupe. My reverse tail light power was purple. I tapped into it from the drivers side kick panel. Use my info at your own discretion. I have no audio/electrical background but I read Wrathernauts guides and my system has been working trouble free for 3 months
