Xm is Fd up need Guru help.

Ok guys I've searched a bit and nothing really hit the nail on the head for this one. Besides I'm getting a lot of bad juju for necromancing the threads.

So I bought my lovely 06 G and immediately started looking for sat. Found it and did the laziest install ever. Needless to say it rattled like a baby's toy. I wen in to fix said issue and now sat antenna doesn't work. Even out side of the car on the roof! So I have several questions first off since my car was prewired how come they don't have an damn attena on there already. Secondly do I need to buy a new antenna? If so what's the best for being in the window (yes I know not the best local but I'm not going to ruin those beautiful bodylines for something as trivial as singal strength). Also does anybody know why everyone who does the DIY not just put these things in above the radio brain thing?

Thanks ahead of time fellas or ladies if you show up.

I would make sure you didn't break any wires or connectors before just replacing the antenna. I don't see how you could break the actual antenna just by moving it. I do see how you could break a wire or a connector though.

I've had my XM antenna mounted to the bottom of my rear deck since '03 and it works. Not the best signal but you can't see it at all.

A couple of the gurus in this forum have suggested installing the antenna under the dash somewhere near the top of the head unit before you put it all back together. Sounds like a good place to me and that's where I will put it when I complete my DD build.

Ok so I checked the wires all seem good and the plus plug in fine. I'll pull it fully out on Tuesday. And take pictures to make sure I have full pin count. Sorry it took so long to get back to you guys I just started a new job and it's a ton of hours.

As for the dash mount I might when I double den it. But for now it's easiest to keep it on the rear deck.

Well since the radio gods don't love me I decided to spend a good hour on the phone with Sirius XM (stuck in lovely Miami traffic anyway so besides the pull over turn off your car and let in the 95* weather bit why not) and they did squat which I figured because it started after I tinkered with the box anyway

So while my wash was going I took it out plugged it back in let it dangle wiggle it no love. Said bump it left it out and put the truck half way back together. Got home and cracked the box open turns our when I bought the screws for the radio they were too long so in putting it in my stock location the screw went too far in and broke a funny round thing capacitor or something idk.

Anyway I will post pics as soon as my Internet starts moving again and I don't have to use the phone to post.

Side note they were nice enough to freeze my service for a month. Swell of them so if you ever screw yourself in the same manner I have Sirius won't join in and make it uncomfortable.

Ok so here is the promised pics for those of you who might care. I'll post where the mounting and everything is when I do my sub install sometime next week.

Thats where the screw went in

thats the capacitor I popped off.

Eventually I had a new one soldered on this actually fried the thing so it no longer recognizes the receiver at all.

best solution is use short screws and not be a moron like I was
