Audio Layout & Setup
Audio Layout & Setup
Hi all,
I am planning to put in a full system consisting of:
- 1x double din head unit
- 1x 5 channel amplifier
- 1x 12in subwoofer
- 2x 6.5in component speakers in the front
- 2x 6.5in coaxial speakers in rear quarter panel area
My questions are:
- Has anyone installed aftermarket tweeters of the components speakers where the stock ones are (the back panel of the side mirrors from inside the car)? Or can it be done?
- Has anyone installed aftermarket coaxial speakers in the rear quarter panel area? Is it difficult getting to the speaker location? I read somewhere that the stock ones are 5.25in, so I may have to downsize from 6.5in (80 RMS) coaxial speakers to 5.25in (55 RMS), can someone please confirm this?
- If the above 2nd point is correct, I am worried about the 5.25in coaxial speakers getting stuffed, because they can only handle 55 RMS and the amplifier will supply 4x50 RMS + 1x200 RMS and I'm just not sure if it is cutting it close.
As you can you read from this I am an audio noob, but I do love my music, so if you could please help me out it would be much appreciated.
Cheers!

Hey there, sounds like you'll be fine. The rear speakers in a coupe are 6.5 just like the front, but they are 3 hoke speakers so you'll need an adaptor to mount them, pretty easy to make though. I don't know if the sedan rears are 5.25 but I kinda doubt it.
Stock tweeter location is an easy fix too, the factory one is slightly smaller than a normal 1" aftermarket tweet but its simple to trim one of the mounting posts and get it in there.
Good luck, sounds like so far so good.

Ditch the rears. They're very useless if you don't have the processing power. Some tweets will fit on the stock location. Problem is, you need to figure out if the tweets work better on-axis(pointed at you) or off-axis.
Just dropping a tweet in the stock location is a bad idea.

Anyways I've decided against that system package and go for the next one up, seeing as the 5 channel amp was powering 50x4 + 200x1, where I could just hook the speakers up to the head unit that outputs the same amount and just get a mono amp and sub.

The tweet location depends on your tweets, some tweets can perform well off axis if they have the settings right. My alpine type x components can perform off axis if I choose a certain setting in the crossovers. Most 1" tweets will fit in the stock location and they will still sound way better than stock.

I'm intending to install an Alpine Type R system in. I wanna fit in a 12inch sub, but I think I have to have a 10inch sub so it doesn't take up too much space, cause I do still wanna use the spare wheel.
