The JL Audio XR series components and coaxes have a great deal of mid bass that would make up alot for the missing sub. Get a good 4 channel amp and go with XR's all around and you will be ok. If you want to hear the XR's compared to other speakers, stop by my shop in Mission Viejo, its about 45 min north of SD.

Remami, Those are definitly a good choice. I used to be in the home and car audio business too and we used to sell a lot of those. But my concern with G35SanDiego is he wants them to play loud and running those speakers full range at louder volumes will make them distort sooner. I guess we really need to know how loud he wants to play his music.

sandiego,

make sure you don't buy an amp that say 1000 watts for only 80 bucks. That is asking for trouble.

As for power, depend on the amp design. Some amp that is 50 watts sound more powerfull than 100 watts. The more expensive amp are design to deliver high current. Majority of the people listen to music, the loudest is probally one watt. For an amp to deliver that one watt, it take a lot of energy. Anything after one watt, doesn't require as much.

to make long story short, i would rather have 20 clean watts vs 100 or 150 watts.

CLS2G35,

You are absolutly correct, how loud you want to hear the music is very imprtant. I made the recommendations on the earlier comments that G35SanDiego was not an audiophile and did not want to rattle the windows. I have the XR's in my Tahoe and when the sub amp fuse blew I still had a good amout of bass at the lower to moderatly high volumes.

For the type music G35SanDiego I would recommend the hanging box with two eight inch subs that we have done for the coupes, It plays through the stock 6X9 locations and still leaves alot of room in the trunk. But for no subs the XRs work pretty well.
