new stereo question

I just bought a new stereo (Pyle PLDN74BTi) and the PAC ROEM-NIS2 harness. Just finished soldering the harnesses together. Just one question... stereo hu says Parking cable must be connected to B-, or there will be no display. I guess that's simple, really. I was expecting there to be a brake/reverse safety or something. Can someone make sure I'm not mis-interpreting this?

on most units, if that wire is grounded when it starts up, it won't let the video show. That's why most use a relay attached to the headunit's accessory power wire to bypass that check.

You lucked up on this one. You could, at your own risk and not at the suggestion of anything that I may type here (remember watching moving video while the car is in motion is illegal), take that parking brake cable and ground it.

Some units are smart enough to see through this one, as mentioned above, if the unit is grounded when it starts up.

But yeah, any video besides vehicle status (RPM, Speedo, fuel consumption, etc.) or guidance that is forward of the driver is illegal in most states. Now, if you're doing it so that your passenger can input destinations while you drive, or for installation in a motor home, then bypassing is totally legal.

If you're bypassing for one of those reasons metoined above, try youtube for videos for your specific unit, or the generic relay-based bypass.

well, being that the head unit told me to "connect the park cable to B(-)." I was just following the manufacturers directions. lol. Its installed now and that wire is grounded. I haven't put a DVD in it yet to see what it does but, there's nothing connected to the brake/park brake, neutral safety switch or anything of that sort. So... I don't see what would stop the player from working at any point in time...
