Double Din Crossroads

I have been looking around on the site and doing some research on DDin for my 05G cpe. I have the OEM nav and yes the POS factory (I believe Clarion) headunt. Well like we all know and most ihave experienced, CD changer stopped playing and now I have six CD's stuck. The error msg I get is generic. Unfortunately the warranty is out, but this would be the second unit that crapped out on me. SO NO MORE OEM RADIO HEADUNITS. It's aftermarket from here on out.

I went up to Sewell in Dallas and spoke to a service rep there. He told me that Infiniti has done away with using the headunits and have moved on to focusing on DDin. The headunit of choice is the Sony XAV-62bt. Red advise that the unit is straight forward with wiring and configurations of Bose speaker Ohms issue. Ofcourse I had a choice of letting them send the old unit out and fixing it and recovering the CD's for approx. 500.00 or I could go for the new hotness for approx. 950.00 to 1000.00. WTF!!!!! Too rich for my blood!!!!!!!! I'll keep listening to ancient FM.

So I did alittle research and found the same Sony unit online and at a place locally here in the area. The prices range from 200.00 to 400.00. So that is doable. My question to the mass is has anyone installed this or any of the other Sony headunits (XAV-60, XAV-62bt, XAV-70bt, etc) and are you satisfied with it, what issues have you encountered if any? Do any of you know of a trustworthy car installation in the Dallas area that knows our G's and does a good job? I know that there are other units out there that may be of better quality, but again I am on a budget. I also was looking at not only this specific unit but the steering wheel control and video bypass relays.

Any constructive/positive feedback would be appreciated.

Uhm, I think the law is to offer replacements parts 10 yrs after the manufacture date of car. If you want an OEM head unit, go to another dealer.

I was looking at doing a DD swap, but decided to wait until mine fails. I was looking at an AVIC Z130bt (I think that was its model no)

Install yourself and save, there's a ton of info in here.

Just from a Grubbs Infiniti perspective, we would do the same thing, take your radio out and bring it in and we can send it for repair, $350.00 + taxes.......
if you go to the new unit, the head unit you get, in addition you will need to get the Double Din kit, which we have also, we don't recommend any specific units, as that is personal taste and what you want.
so just my 2 cents

The DD conversion/install is not cheap, but it definitely makes the car more "livable". I wish I'd done it sooner.

Best wishes, whatever you decide to do.
