Add SAT and iPod to your 2003 non pre wired G-35

For all of you 2003 G-35 non SAT pre wired owners out there, I was unable to find any guidance on installing an after market SAT tuner. I researched it and just installed a PAC AUDIO ISNI 571 unit and harness, SCC1 SAT tuner and ISSR-11 cable (to connect SAT to PAC). I was able to tuck everything under the center console with plenty of room to spare! Wiring was easy and the SAT works flawlessly. iPod integration is good too. I drilled a hole in the forward end of the console tray to run the iPod cable to the PAC unit. It will run my iPad, as well!

The SAT tuner comes with a cable to connect it to the PAC AUDIO unit, but that cable will not work! You must purchase cable ISSR-11 for the unit to work.

There is a distinct order to plug the components into the PAC unit, and if you don't do it in that order, the unit will need to be taken apart and a reset is required. I know, because I plugged and unplugged so many times during the install that I failed to follow the order once and then it wouldn't recognize the SAT tuner. The reset process is simple; just take out the circuit board inside the PAC AUDIO unit and short out the two solder connections opposite the large capacitor (in the bank of 9 capacitors) that has the "plus sign" on it. It must be unpowered when you do this, or, as the techie said, you will see smoke!

I bought these 3 items on Amazon for a total of $175. All information out there says it is for 2004-07 cars, but was told by an installer that it would work if you have the SAT button on radio head. I set the dip switches like a 2004 setup. I may change one dip switch (2) and see if I get better text on the display with the SAT.

Bought and installed this unit on your thread's recommendation yesterday. Just the iPod adapter, no Satellite tuner. Just wanted to see if you had any different luck with changing the dipswitches. I set mine with #2 on (as recommended for '04 G35) and the rest off. The text is moderately good, but hitting the DISP button seems inconsistent with its results. It'll display "TITLE" or "ARTIST" but then typically flash right back to the song title again. One other complaint is that the Tune ^ and v buttons on the head unit will change tracks, but the ^ and v buttons on the steering wheel won't.

One other thing it did a couple times was that if I had it on the iPod input and unplugged the iPod, it would display NO IPOD (which is expected) and would only allow me to power the head unit down. I couldn't get it to power back up or switch inputs at all until I shut the car off and turned it on again. The sequence of events leading up to that seemed inconsistent, and I haven't had much time to try different things and establish a pattern yet. Just wondered if you saw any of these issues in your experience. I'd imagine that if I called tech support or anything, they'd tell me "well it's not listed as compatible with your year car, so we can't help you."

Thanks for the info; overall I'm happy to have any ability to add an iPod/iPhone and Auxiliary input without having to change out any other factory components and spend extra money on a Bose amp adapter and steering wheel control adapter for an aftermarket head unit. Thanks for any help you might be able to give!

I also set the dip switches to all OFF except Number 2. My G-35 is an '03. I really don't use the adapter for the iPod; generally only for the SIRIUS. Things may work a little differently on the SAT than on the iPod. I have not had the "ARTIST/TITLE" problem that you have had. When I press DISPLAY (I think 3 times, to cycle thru some texts) I get the Artist; another few times, I get the Title. After a few seconds, the text goes back to the Station Number.
I am contemplating switching DIP 3 to ON to see if it will correct the issue of the steering wheel button not working correctly. I, too have a problem here. When I select a track on the S/W, it changes the MODE of the unit and selects the next genre (pop, rock, etc.) instead. I am thinking that changing #3 will make the steering wheel the same as the right-hand ^v button on the head.

I have not had any shutting off issues like you state here. Mine has consistently worked like a charm since I figured out how to connect it all up! As far as TECH Support, I had great experiences with everyone I talked to there--give them a try!

Good luck and let me know how it turns out!

I haven't tried any dip switch changes yet. My assumption was that they affect the communication method by which the GateWay displays text on the head unit since it fits several years and models. Perhaps it affects the controls as well, though. I'll probably give tech support a ring and just see what they have to say.

In my case, I need the S/W switches to function in conjunction with the "Tune ^/v" buttons; left-hand on the head unit. That's what changes tracks on the iPod.

It seems like the thing as sorta settled in. I've had less problems with it acting finicky over the past couple weeks. Since you don't tend to use yours for iPod and I don't use mine for SAT at all, there's only so much we can compare in our experiences.

I think I sort of get the same DISP results as you. It takes a good 2 to 500 times pushing the button to get it to roll through and display something else. I really don't care too much about that function as it displays the track name by default and that's most of what I care to see. One thing it doesn't do is scroll through if the title is longer than the max number of characters on the display. It does this on FM (for stations that support that) but not for the iPod function. All-in-all though, it's got the functionality I wanted with minimal investment. Hope other guys with our year benefit from the info that this unit WILL work with their car like I did!
