Car Audio - Subwoofer Question

Hey guys

I recently bought a g35 coupe zenclosure locally from this guy for 35 bucks because his G was destroyed. The box is a (12") 1.2cubic feet. He had a type r in it and wanted to sell it to me but I do not like buying used sub woofers. Anyway after reading reviews i wanted to go with a Boston Accoustic G2 but the recommended space for it in a sealed box is 1.0 cubic feet. My question is do you guys think putting it in a 1.2 cubic feet will sound bad because its not the recommendation? Could i possibly make my box smaller somehow? or should i just go with a type r which is recommended at 1.2 ? Also if anyone have heard both of these subs..which one sounds better in the G35 coupe. Im looking for quality.

Thanks

You would be fine running a 1.2 cubic foot box. The type r is a good sub but haven't heard a G2 before. So i'm not any help with comparing them.

I've had G2's and type-r's before and the G2's sound better than the Type R but won't get as loud. Both won't be overwhelmingly loud regardless so if you're really against buying used subs, you should get the G2. However, if he's giving you a good price on the type-r as well, you can buy it, get the G2, and sell whichever one you don't like.

As for the recommended specs, you might be able to add some wood pieces in there or something to make it .2 cubic feet smaller. I know you can add polyfill to make your box seem bigger so adding .2 cubic feet of wood in there seems like it would work.

The bigger the sealed box the (generally speaking):

less power it takes the sub to full excurt
lower bass frequency response
louder bass

Why do you want the Boston sub? There are much better subs for the money out there.

Look at Fi and SSA subs.

Eh, the g2 is a hell of a good sub at it's price point.

SSA and FI subs thrive in large ported.
