Has anyone done this? What I was thinking is, taking the stock dash, and cutting the plastic so it will fit a double din head unit, instead of buying a JDM dash kit. I have a machine shop at work so I could do this pretty easily, just haven't seen anyone do it..

 

When I was searching around for options I saw someone used a dremel to make theirs work...seemed to come out pretty nice. I think the ac controls are attached to the Oem radio though

 

I'd love to see this thread where they did this. Hopefully I can find it or someone else can. I'm mainly just worried about the exact dimensions, and how I would secure/mount a double din head unit into my car once this is done.

As far as the AC controls being attached to the radio, I'm sure I can just splice the wires in to where they should go.

Thats helpful, I think I will do this. Only question I have, how do you get the double din headunit to stay in place? Am I going to need to buy some kind of mounting hardware since I'm not buying a JDM face plate?

 

I believe the headunit mounts up to some brackets that are separate from the DD kit. Not too sure but thats how it is most of the time. The DD kit just allows the opening for the headunit to peep through. Check behind your OEM radio to see if there is a mounting bracket. Or look at DIY's of headunit installations around the forums

 

The factory bracket works fine. Depending on the depth of the aftermarket radio, you'll probably have to drill new holes in the bracket to put the radio in the right spot though. Nothing complicated, just something like this:

Awesome, this doesn't look too hard. Just need to save for that AC controller now lol.

Also, the rear subs, are they just 8 inch subs? or are they 6x9s? Should I replace them with 8 inch subs or 6x9s is what I'm trying to figure out, because my bose ones are blown and sound like someone farting on a drum. Really annoying

 

Coupe = Pair of 6x9s
Sedan = Single 8" woofer

I highly recommend removing them from the rear deck and not replacing them. Put a real sub in the trunk. Even a small 8" in a proper enclosure will sound worlds better than something put on that rattle-trap of a rear deck.
