A different Ipod approach

I've been trying to figure out the Ipod mounting problem, and I keep getting hung up on the lack of accessability to read the Ipod display. Because its so small, you would need to take your eyes off the road and focus on the ipod to change tracks etc...
What would be cool, is the ability to display the ipod on our navigation screen. I believe the new Ipod with picture capabilities has a video out from the docking station, which could be coupled with the AV electronics unit (or anything else)... Then if you add some steering wheel controls, in my opinion you would have the perfect setup, and you could mount the ipod in the glove box (or anywhere because you don't need access to it)
Can anyone confirm if this idea is possible???

I have the Photo iPod, and can tell you that the video-out, while it could be converted to RGB by an AV Electronics unit to play on the screen, is only for the photo slide shows. When using the iPod normally, the video out is dead. The screen of the Photo Ipod will show you a color image of the album cover of the song you are playing, but this does not get sent to the video-out. Also, the video-out is built into the headphone plug, and the Photo iPod comes with this adapter, (mini three way phono plug on one end, 3 RCA plugs on the other). I'm not sure about whether there is video out in the base station.

the ipod display is absolutely useless to me when connected through the Alpine Ipod Adapter. I want an easy to mount place that way I can take it off and go as I leave, etc.
