do I need 1 or 5 channel amp?

Ok here is the low down.. I'm spending money like gang busters and I need some advice before i do this. I have been reading a bunch of threads and asking questions, but have not ran across this one.

I have gotten the radio and all the recommended items on the shopping list (thanks to the audio adviser on this site).

Should i look to by a 1 channel or a 5 channel amp..

The reason is.. I want to boost the sound quality in my car. I'm going to replace the front speakers with a set of components mid and tweeter. I'm going to leave the rear set alone for now (upgrade them later), but I want the whole care to be louder.. So I was thinking to utilize the front speakers I needed to put power to them (the amp). With the 1 channel amp it seems to be that the aftermarket unit could not match the power coming out the sub and "drown" the mids and highs out. resulting in quality sound. That's when i thought about the 5 channel amp.. i could boost the sound on every speaker.

So my question is what should i get 1 channel or 5 channel?

Side question.. the pioneer 8400bh.. is that able to work with a samsung galaxy s3 phone? I saw that if you buy the cables it might work, but i want to know for sure that t will work b4 i buy it?

For the price of the 5 channel amp, you can get a better mono channel and a good 2-channel amp. Just leave the rears completely unpowered, or power them from the headunit. The only issue (besides screwing up the "proper" front soundstage) by using the headunit to power the rears, is that balancing the front and rears to increase in volume at the same rate can be tricky.

ok now i'm confused.. If i get a 5 channel I can run the whole car with one amp right?

If I get 1 channel amp to run the sub the rest of the speakers will be "drowned" out by the sub reducing the sound quality.

If i get a 2 channel up to run the front speakers.. the back seat speakers will have to be adjusted (balance/fade) by the radio to get the right sound while the 1 channel amp will be adjusted by the sub on the radio?

Get a 4 channel and a mono

Bridge the 4 channel down to 2 to power the fronts(cheap way to get lots of power)

Delete the rears

Get a mono amp for the sub

I thought the rears were the same size as the front speakers.. so by deleting them that would decrease the sound coming from the rear right?

Yes they are, yes it would, and less sound from the rear is a *good* thing. Music is mastered in two channel (STEREO), not 4+ channel (SURROUND). To get surround to sound great in a car takes a lot of work. To get stereo sounding right is relatively easy, and simulates the best listening environment - the band on the stage in front of you. Speakers go to the front of you, and the bass, since it's omnidirectional, can go where it fits (the trunk) without sounding like the drummer is behind you.

So this amp here would be too much ROCKFORD FOSGATE R600-5 600W 5-Channel Car Amplifier?
Ok I understand what u are saying.. So if I want to run the whole car.. All I need is a 2 channel amp.. for the door speakers and the other channel to run the sub in the rear.

I notice a lot of guys on here run a mono one channel amp for the sub.. So what are they running the front speakers off of?

No a 2-channel amp (or 4-channel bridged down to 2 channels) for the front speakers, and a separate mono (or 2-channel bridged down to 1 channel) for the subwoofer.

My front speakers are run off of a 4-channel bridged down to 2 channels (JL 300/4v2) in my car and a 2 channel (PPI 600.2) in my wife's.

2 amps would be ideal

They are some 5 channels you can bridge, but power is weak on the sub side
