Which tablets can fit in 2004 G35 Dash Cubby?
Hi guys,
I was wondering if anyone has done this before. I have looked around there are a few videos on youtube but they are in dark and they dont mention which tablet they are using.
I like to fit a 7inch tablet in g35 dash cubby. I was wondering if someone can please share their experience. What kind of tablet they used and if they had to do any modification. I want to be sure before i go and buy one.
I think its a good alternative since double din are very expensive. For sound I have a Motorolla T505 that will connect through bluetooth and route sound through car speakers. No wiring necessary.
Some pics would be great.
Thanks

One problem I've found trying to use a tablet in my car is that the screens do not work well at all with polarized sunglasses. They're also *very* reflective and are a bit of a liabililty in the car, if you get the sun at the right angle, they could blind the driver, and on the other end, they're just hard to see if there's any light shining on the passenger's seat, or even the passenger. A good anti-reflective screen cover will help some.
You might want to go to the Car PC subforum for information on mounting it in the cubby.
I do not consider them a good alternative to a double din radio.
There are the aforementioned problems with the screen.
They do not work with the steering wheel controls.
The interfaces for streaming audio programs and such are not designed with high-visibility interfaces that are easily read or controlled by a driver. This is dangerous.
You're going to have to get a separate data plan for them, or tether them to a smartphone to get streaming audio - so if you've already got a smartphone, you should just use that for the streaming audio instead - there is nothing a tablet will do that a smartphone can't do just as well.

Any luck? I am thinking of doing the exact same thing. I am having trouble finding the exact dimensions of the inside of the cubby, specifically the width... I measured it to be just over 19cm the 2012 nexus 7 is 19.85 cm so i'm not sure if it will squeeze in. I was thinking of removing the plastic bezel from the top and bottom to get a little extra space...
I am happy with the stereo the way it is and wiring it in would be a POTA given the low voltage going into the headunit. I want it mainly for gps purposes and maybe the odd video.
