How to cut alluminum trim for JDM double din to fit 05-07 navigation models?

I hope I'm posting in the right place but if I'm not I apoligize. I have a problem. If you buy the jdm trim for a double din and you have a navigation model 05-07 g35 , you have to cut 1/8 of an inch off the top of the piece of aluminum trim that is sold aftermarket to fit navigation models. If you do not have a navigation model it should fit perfectly. They only made one version. So my question is how the heck to cut it without damaging it. I want to get a smooth cut and dont know what tool to use. I understand the trim is plastic but has a real metal cover. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Good luck with it, my first one was the hardest... after about 4-5 I had it down pretty good.

did the modification today, took like 30 minutes and came out perfect. I used painters tape, a hacksaw, a nail file on my swiss army knife and some 2000 G sandpaper. It looks almost like a factory cut. Thanks again.

Any pics of the completed product? Always glad to see that the method is reproduceable.

sad thing is, you can get the Navigation trim now, so that was not really needed.... but glad it came out great for you!
