It's not only a lot of work, it's gonna cost you more too.
IMHO, get a Garmin - you can mount it just under the visor so you won't have to move your eyes as much to look at directions, meaning you'll be able to keep your eyes on the road much better, and you won't have to deal with the clumsy joystick on the factory unit that makes inputting anything a painful procedure.

A navigation system that wasn't fantastic when it debuted ten years ago, updates that cost more than a brand-new garmin, and you'll be stuck using the factory radio if you want to keep that navigation voice.
