Easy V1 hardwire/hardmount Phase II - Scanner
I've got the BCT7 installed in my armrest with a radioshack 24" antenna mounted between my headliner and roof. A cassette adapter is run under the column and behind the stereo. That way i can select the Scanner from my steering wheel by switching to Tape.
I've also got te BCT10 installed next to my right leg with the power coming from the block under my dash. using the thin wire antenna attached vertically the windshield behind the A pillar.
No pixes of my BCT10 (older v. of BCT12) ... but here is the BCT7 (older v. of BCT8). BCT7's are the same as 10's, but receive/react to police aircraft/helicopter transmissions.

so the scanner will warn you if there are police nearby? how well has this worked for you guys in long highway drives? i am going to college in the fall and my trip home is 4 hours so if this works well, it would be worth it.
Be careful with buying a scanner these days. Many police depts are going to digital trunking. Right now the only scanners that can keep up with digital trunk calls are the bearcats that cost around $800 - ouch. My local PD as well as Illinois H Patrol are switching now - soon to be off the old analog system.
The original beartracker premise was that it would lock onto the frequency between the officer's belt radio and the car repeater - that will still work, I'd imagine, because I think only the trunk unit is being changed out. I could be wrong though.
The nice thing about trunk trackers is that you'll hear the whole conversation. On a regular scanner you'll get one piece of the conversation, but the response will come back on another channel so you won't necessarily hear it.

Is an actual tape required to be in the deck, or how is the tape mode done? Is the antenna just a wire?
