2004 G35 radio

I have been reading up on the radio issues people are experiencing with the 03-04 G35's. I too am having some issues but they seem a little different. I had the dreaded no radio, no ac control issues. I disconnected the CD player from the radio and seem to have controls back, we'll somewhat. Now the radio and controls work ( minus the radio display) as long as I am on accessory or with the key all the way on but as soon as I start the car it doesn't work once again and the lights flash on the Climate buttons. Has anybody experienced issues like this?

While the car is running and all of the issues are acting up try wiggling the key from left to right and see if this helps. If this helps then the electrical portion of the ignition switch is bad which sounds crazy but it is really common on 03 models for sure

I will try that as soon as I get home. It is just weird that when the key is on the 'ON' position it works just fine but as soon as I start the car and it is running it starts acting crazy.

LOL. So if it isn't the ignition switch what else do you think could be going on?

Only other common problem is the dreaded audio unit that we replace a bunch of. The fact that it has to do with car running and with key in on position makes me think ignition switch issue

I hope that's all it is. Can I just replace the switch and put my current Tumbler, etc in it and be ok or will I have to reprogram everything?

Nevermind. I answered my own question.

I did check to see if it helped if I messed with the key while it was running but it did not. I am thinking about changing it still just to make sure.

Most of the time it is just the electrical portion on the back of the ignition switch which is a plastic piece where the connector plugs on the back, you can change this without removing the whole tumbler assy. I think there is only 1 or 2 screws that hold it on.

Angry

Well, I still am having a problem after installing a new switch. The radio still works when the car is in the acc or the on position but when I start the car it has a squealing noise. It will pop and squeal regardless if the radio is on or off. If I hit the left side of the console it will go off and sometimes will stop squealing and work correctly for awhile. The display doesn't work at all and the buttons for the audio don't work but the Climate buttons do. I can work the radio with the steering wheel switches though. I know it's a lot to process......
